chakoo Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 impressive. I love when Sony’s core studios get to build something new. Quote
legend Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 This was an absolutely beautiful trailer with a very fun retro-future vibe. They have my attention. Quote
crispy4000 Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 I'll play devil's advocate and say that these tropes are wearing thin. Bounty hunting in space. Implied souls-like. Mech design ripped out of a Xenoblade game. The cloth sim on the bed sheets sure looked good though. Animation in this should be incredible in general. 1 Quote
Commissar SFLUFAN Posted December 13, 2024 Author Posted December 13, 2024 Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Is a Return to Naughty Dog’s Roots - The New York Times WWW.NYTIMES.COM Neil Druckmann said Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the adventure of a galactic bounty hunter, would be a story about faith. Quote "The story is quite ambitious," centering on a fictitious religion and "what happens when you put your faith in different institutions," The story is set in an alternative universe where space travel has significantly advanced by 1986. But he said it was a return to Naughty Dog's roots in the action-adventure genre that helped build the studio's reputation with franchises like Crash Bandicoot. It takes inspiration, he said, from classic anime like the 1988 movie "Akira" and the 1990s series "Cowboy Bebop." Quote
legend Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 I mean, the anime on the TV was clearly Cowboy Bebop inspired. Quote
Moa Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 As someone who doesn't own a PS I don't have much skin in the game, but my jealousy of those who do plummeted when I saw that the actual game appeared to be third person melee action about sword fighting robots. Until then, it seemed very grounded and then became generic video game. Speaking of which, I really want to see a game that makes alien environments actually alien, not just earth biomes with different colored plants. Very little visual media gets it right, but something that pulls inspiration from Scavenger's Reign would be sick. Xen in Black Mesa definitely deserves a shoutout in this regard. Quote

CastletonSnob Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Punch of people whining about how "ugly" the protagonist is and how "woke" the game looks. I hate my fellow gamers sometimes. Quote

Biggie Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 I’ll be all over this like I was all over your sister last night. Naughty Dog is goated. Quote
elbobo Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Omg the 80s sci-fi movie/anime vibe. Hook it to my fucking veins Quote
Mr.Vic20 Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Looks great! I'll be on the wait list for 2 years after it launches, ready for the PC port. Quote

The glut of souls-likes out there probably makes us forget how worn thin 3rd (and 1st) person shooters are, even by comparison. We’re so desensitized to those that we’re conditioned to look past the trappings. At the very least they’re stepping out of their wheelhouse here a bit. I wish it looked a bit more stylized BG&E though. Since the sequel to that is a running joke at this point. Quote

Best Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Sign me the fuck up! Naughty Dog is hands down my favorite dev. Cannot wait. 1 Quote
TwinIon Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 I'm not in love with the 80's retro vibe, but I'm all in on Sci-Fi Naughty Dog. I'm also not sure why people are immediately jumping to "souls like" and assuming a lack of guns when we saw all of 5 seconds of stylized not-quite-gameplay. I just want to know how far away this thing is. Uncharted 4 released 4 years after it was announced, and both Last of Us games came out roughly two years after theirs. So maybe a soft target of two years isn't too much to hope? If it's much longer than that, the odds that we're playing this for the first time on the PS6 start increasing. Quote
Kal-El814 Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Looks great as one expects from ND but WTF is up with this Dan Snyder ass title? 13 hours ago, Commissar SFLUFAN said: Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Is a Return to Naughty Dog’s Roots - The New York Times WWW.NYTIMES.COM Neil Druckmann said Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the adventure of a galactic bounty hunter, would be a story about faith. Druckmann talking about ND exploring themes in gameplay is like my anti-Viagra. TLOU2's narrative and cinematic execution were great, its gameplay was very good with moments of greatness, but the intersection of those two things was, at best, non-existent. But this has been their MO since Uncharted so whatever. Also... Gotta love the callbacks to some of their worst games, assuming we forget Queef the Thief or whatever it was called. Quote
Best Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 I'll be honest this has me more interested than if they teased TLOU3. Quote

It’s because they’re so pervasive today, and the way they presented it implies the mech guy isn’t fodder. It’s the natural conclusion here in 2024. I’d personally love it if it was character action like Ninja Gaiden Black or something. Or turn based like Clair Obscur. But that’s not the vibe they’re giving. Quote

Paperclyp Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Some of my favorite game critics are such bummers when it comes to ND games. Like they could announce the coolest damn thing you've ever seen and they'd be like "yeah but I bet Neil Druckman is writing it" or whatever. I thought this looked like an awesome departure for them and I don't give a shit if it's a little derivative. 1 Quote
jaethos Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 The 80's sci-fi is interesting. It's a minimum of 2 years away though, probably more, so I'll wait until much closer to release before I put any real thought into it. Quote

AbsolutSurgen Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 It's a cinematic teaser. While it's exciting to actually see a new announcement of a big game on the VGAs, cinematic teasers don't get me all that excited. 1 Quote

I have it on good authority that you’re controlling every muscle spasm, blink, and arm movement in the conversation the main character is having. 1 Quote
