Commissar SFLUFAN Posted December 13, 2024 Author Posted December 13, 2024 The unreleased GPU CDPR is referring to is the prototype 6080 that they're testing for Nvidia. 1 Quote

Best Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 The Witcher is not something I enjoy. I'll absolutely give this a chance but I'm not hyped at all. 1 Quote
Commissar SFLUFAN Posted December 13, 2024 Author Posted December 13, 2024 Inside The Witcher 4: CD Projekt Red’s Plans For Its Next Big RPG - IGN WWW.IGN.COM IGN's exclusive interview with CD Projekt Red reveals the developer's plans for The Witcher 4, including a renewed focus on varied gameplay and a protagonist defined by the player. Quote “Since I can remember, we've been talking about Ciri and how much she deserves her own journey,” says Sebastian Kalemba, game director of The Witcher 4. This likely won’t come as a surprise to many fans of CD Projekt Red’s beloved RPG series. Ever since the Polish developer announced “Polaris”, The Witcher 4’s codename, people have theorised that the series would switch perspective from the iconic Geralt of Rivia to his adoptive daughter, Ciri. She is, after all, effectively the secondary protagonist of both the original novels and The Witcher 3. “I think ‘The Witcher’ as a title refers to both Geralt and Ciri and always has,” explains Cian Maher, franchise and lore designer at CDPR. “I think she's arguably more important to the plot than Geralt himself is.” Last we saw Ciri she was a young woman facing her destiny. But now, as depicted in a new cinematic trailer shown at The Game Awards 2024, Ciri is a fully-fledged witcher hunting monsters for profit. Kalemba explains that, following the events of The Witcher 3, Ciri has undertaken the famously painful Trial of the Grasses which has mutated her into a powerful and resilient warrior. She’s ready to take on a whole new journey in The Witcher 4, which is the first part of a planned new trilogy of single-player, open-world RPGs. Quote It’s this passion that will differentiate Ciri from Geralt, and subsequently The Witcher 4 from its predecessors. “We want to let players try to define her,” says Kalemba. Unlike Geralt, who has been a veteran monster hunter for the entire Witcher saga, Ciri is only just starting her career. That means there’s space for players to create their own version of her. “She's about to form her own codex on her own terms,” Kalemba reveals. “The way she actually deals with the monsters, the way she deals with quests, the adventures, it's her own unique way.” Quote
Chris- Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 I look forward to playing this in 2029. 1 Quote
Best Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 @Bacon You're still hyped for this even though it's using UE5? Quote

Considering CD Projekt has a ton of game engine development experience. I don't think it will be a problem for them to get what they want out of UE5. I will wait patiently and see how the game ends up. I found out long ago that hyping things just makes the wait seem longer and increase the potential for disappointment. Quote

I honestly respect CD Project a lot more these days because of the remarkable turnaround Cyberpunk has had. I cannot stand Geralt as a character so I hope he isn't in part 4 at all. They need to tighten up the controls too with much better combat mechanics. Quote
Bacon Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 I was hoping for a custom character for TW4. Sad that's not what we are getting. 1 Quote

The magic electricity was not a Witcher sign and they confirmed in the interview it’s her own stuff. It’s sounds like they’re going to do a bunch with her unique magic and how that interacts with the Witcher side. Quote

They do need to work on the controls, especially since games have evolved since W3. But Geralt fucking rocks. W3 has some of the most emotional moments in any game I’ve ever played. He puts on a tough face but dude is a softy and deals with a lot. Quote

I did beat W3 in 2015 at it's launch but I never held it as high as many others do. I didn't like the music either. Quote

jaethos Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 I was really hoping they would have us create our own Witcher. I like CDPR's games, but their insistence on almost everyone being morally ambiguous or more often a dick, douche or asshole gets tiring for me. I never ended up finishing Witcher 3 because I didn't really like any of the characters. They weren't bad characters, but I didn't care about what happened to any of them. I keep thinking I'll go back to it someday, it's been installed on my PC for years, but I always choose something else. This game is probably 4 plus years out though, so we'll see then. 1 Quote

It was still a bit clunky but much better than W2. With them using Ciri I can see them potentially having a quicker/smoother combat system for her. 1 Quote

The series took a massive step forward with part 3. I hope you're right about the combat in part 4. Quote
AbsolutSurgen Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 I'm not sure where they would go with Geralt, after the end of The Witcher 3/DLC. My ending seemed pretty conclusive. That said, I never found Ciri to be that compelling a character. And I thought the scenes you played as her were the weakest of the game. If they wanted to continue in that Universe, I probably would have gone with a "new Witcher" in a somewhat different time period. Quote

I feel like a lot of that is just that Ciri is central to the conflict and a person to whom the plot happens. Post-Witcher 3 they will have a lot more opportunity to define her as a character, or so I would hope. 1 Quote
