I made the mistake of starting Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster before finishing Metaphor.

Bro, this shit is awesome. It is so nostalgic despite the fact that I have never played it. It's a "vibe" as some might say. I just wanted to test it out, see how it was. Boy, what a mistake that was when I need to finish Metaphor. Like, when people say, "Video games used to be better," SMT3 feels like one of those games that proves that statement true.

Anyway, if you ever play this game via Steam, you need to make sure you install this free DLC to get the SMT3 experience that SMT3 is known for. I'm not sure why it is DLC on Steam, whereas on console it's baked in, but you gotta get it before you start.

Also, if you play on PC, get these mods and mod loader. These mods actually remaster the game at a very basic level.

There is also a mod pack that REALLY remasters the game and makes it very modern. I haven't installed it because I mostly want to get the OG experience, but I might install it if I ever want the real conveniences of a modern RPG. Also, all of the mods in this mod pack can be found and installed separately on the gamebanana website.

Never heard of this. Watched a review from easy allies and they gave it a 8.0.

It's Steam Deck verified, btw. And you can install those mods too. Not sure if the game is your style, prolly not, but it is only 15 bucks right now.

I’ve owned SMT 4 and 5 and spent maybe 10 hours with them combined. So I don’t think the series is for me, but whenever this pops up on sale I’m always slightly tempted to grab it.

It is similar to SMT 4 so you'd prolly be better of saving your money for sure.

I don't think I'd enjoy it. That's just based off the video review I watched.

I set this up like a year ago including those exact mods. I dunno, never got very far in. Something about it just didn't do it for me. Every time I try an SMT game, I just never like them very much. I put so many hours into SMT V, trying to find what people loved about it, and never found it. I liked SMT IV more, but I think that was largely because of the opening twist/reveals after a couple hours than the actual gameplay or story.

I'll probably get back around to it, as my sister has loved this game since it came out and I'd like to see more of it, but I don't have terribly high hopes.

I like it so much because of that nostalgic factor. While I've never played it, I have played SMT4 and Persona 3. SMT3 feels like this branching point. There is far more persona in SMT3 than in SMT4. Especially when it comes to music. SMT3 has that persona piano style in places whereas SMT4 was pure synth.

And then there is the sfx. It has a very classic sound. Like, resident evil 1 and 2 and silent hill 1 and 2 have a style of menu sfx and SMT3 has that same style. It's just so pleasing.

It comes together to make this game feel nostalgic and comfy, but it's also new to me. Combine that with the holiday season vibes, and this game just hits the spot. Especially when coming off of DA:TV, which is pure modern slop.

This game is just so comfy and nostalgic. There is a small section of the game where all I'm doing is walking and opening doors and it's so familiar. This whole game is this gif
