From the way I hear people talk, or maybe it's just a Giant Bomb thing, it sounds like Balatro is the front runner.

I feel like Rebirth while good, was too much for some people.

And of course Erdtree seems like a good candidate since they specifically changed the rules to allow it to be included. :p

I've played Astro Bot and Rebirth, both terrific games. I think Rebirth would edge it out just slightly because of how much of an emotional rollercoaster it was, but Astro Bot is the ultimate pick-up-and-play kind of platformer.

No doubt I'll at least play Metaphor in due time.

Black Myth: Wukong over Stellar Blade if you're going to select that kind of game for a nomination? I haven't played either but Stellar Blade sounded like the better game of the two.

Voted for Astro Bot in everything but visuals which I gave to wukong. Gave M:R best RPG. Voted Wukong for best action game.

Fuck shitty ass digital card games. In the trash they go.

You should play Stellar Blade. It's really fuckin good. And it gets pretty challenging towards the end.

The exception is in "hero" based games like OW, League, or Fighting games. I've been this way since I was a kid lol.

But...why?

I just wanna play as a dude. I enjoy a story better when the MC is a dude cuz I'm a dude. This extends to all media for the most part.

I always play as a male character when given a choice. I really only play female characters in "hero" or "champion" games. As in stuff like Overwatch, LoL, Street Fighter, and Smash, what matters is the move set you wish to play. Tracer was my most played character after Junkrat in Overwatch.

It's an intentional and pointless limiting factor which results in you missing out on an incredible number of, in this case, great video games (Horizon, Stellar Blade, so on and so forth). The preference is a handicap. But you do you.

Do you not read books where the main character is female? What about movies/TV? Do you not watch them if the main character(s) is female? Why games if it's just limited to games? The whole thing makes no sense. What about trans or intersex characters? Etc. Logical house of cards here. :p

Nah, It's not intentional. I didn't just decide it. You can't just make me feel different about it. It might be dumb, but it's the way that I am. I did play FemShep once. It was great in ME1 when my romance partner was Liara, but in 2, when the next game's romance partners were all dudes, I was turned off big time. It's one of the reason why I didn't beat ME3 at launch. I really didn't want to play FemShep anymore. I didn't like my own character.

I view the MC as my avatar in a digital world. While I'm playing a character, that character is me—my representation. It's also why I don't enjoy multiple PoV media such as GTA5 or the GoT books. Tho, it is fine in TV shows for some reason. I can't help the way that I am. That just how it be.

I don't. I was once forced to read Pride and Prejudice. I hated every minute of it. I think the book is pure garbage.

Generally no, but sometimes. It's a bit different cuz I can't really connect to the MCs as much when they are real actors. Remember, I HATE when games use real people's faces. I never played the Star Wars Souls-likes cuz of this. I hate that ginger fucks face.

I swear we've talked about this before @Greatoneshere.

And to be clear, I'm not against media with female leads. I've said this before. I'm just not interested.

I'm not sure if this is the exact threat, but it might be.

Not sure if that was the thread - I do remember it so it could be (I think it is lol). I mean, not being interested in female leads to me does say something about potentially being against female leads. I believe you, but it could also be entrenched subconscious patriarchal cultural stuff you haven't ever dealt with either. A person can evolve, adapt, change and learn to like something they never did before. I'd encourage trying (reading one old book, etc. isn't really trying). You're not obligated to, of course, but I would suggest reflecting on why you've had such an entrenched perspective on experiencing things along gender lines and seem unable to do otherwise as a man. This is what feminist thought is all about, about peeling that sort of stuff back even if it is innocent or benign because it limits exposure to empathizing with women through media (to one degree or another which is why the demand for female representation started, in part, so more people, men especially, could see and experience more of their perspective where women are the main character and you're intentionally denying yourself of that).

Preferences that split along racial or gender lines (or along any identity (religion, class, etc.) for that matter) should immediately raise eyebrows with anyone.
