I will be interested in how aggressively he actually institutes that plan. At this time, it sort of looks like he can coast and claim the economy is good under him by doing very little. I really don't know what to expect.

That really doesn't mean much for Nintendo's first party games because their particular art style can always look really beautiful. 

 

The PS4 Pro is kinda equivalent to the steam deck so that's not too bad really.

Steam Deck is a hair slower than a base PS4 at 1.6tflops - PS4 is 1.8, PS4 Pro is 4.2.

Yea, Steam Deck keeps up so well in terms of fidelity and performance because the screen is only 720p (technically 800p), not FHD or higher.

And this has been countered (kind of) by John Linneman (Digital Foundry): 

 

 

Basically, the architecture of the Switch 2 will be far, far beyond the PS4 Pro (in terms of modern design, RAM, etc), but the main limitation is power. When docked it's not an issue, but when mobile it is. IMO I'd expect something around PS4 when mobile, PS4 Pro when docked. At the same time, "power" doesn't equal fidelity. With upscaling and other modern features, the same power can do a lot more things.

 

And also, I don't really care, lol - as long as it's more powerful than the Switch and has new Nintendo games, I am good!

Don't get overhyped, people. This will be around a PS4, as Nintendo will severely underclock the hardware for battery life. The stuff John is talking about is things like upscaling, so we will see less of games that look like they're running at 360p to maintain 30/60fps. It also sounds like we will get better load times this time around (Switch games are getting some pretty bad load times in some games).

My main concern is if it will run Switch 1 games at 60fps like Xenoblade Chronicles 3?

I’d expect about 1.5-2x the power of OG switch (basically base PS4 or a bit better) when in handheld mode, with modern architecture and rendering technology like RTX tech, DLSS and Frame Gen. “More powerful than console X” depends on if you’re talking about raw power or just the overall visual fidelity that’s capable: this seems to be the disconnect between those two posts.

Remains to be seen if nintendo adds support for games to get patched to improve performance. As for switch 2 games being 60 is up to the dev and what they prioritize.

Yeah, I agree, I think people are mixing up advancements in tech with performance. I think some of that is the desire/expectation that this should be able to support all multiplatform games that get released on PS5/XSX, but that will continue to not be the case, and we will see the same level of support as PS4/Switch gen did.

I plan to play my Switch 2 docked 90% of the time. Unless Nintendo took notes from the steam deck and can match it's design and comfort level. Then I'd play it mobile.

My dock is broken. I refuse to play handheld so I'm pretty hyped for the Switch 2. It's been over a year since I touched the Switch.

Some how the current Nvidia shield, which still uses the 9 year old Tegra X1 chip (same thing that is in the original Switch), is still the only good Android TV box. 

I just want the freaking Switch 2 to come out so Nvidia can talk about the (probably embargo'd) CPU they designed for it, and then reveal an updated line of Nvidia Shield devices using that CPU. Plssssss

Waiting for Nvidia to release an actual proper AI upscaler device. The one on the current Shield crashes the system, and wasn't really all that impressive to begin with.
