The standard Blu-Ray and 4K editions are formatted slightly differently; the Blu-Ray is formatted in a 1.78:1 High Definition aspect ratio, while the Ultra HD Blu-Ray is in a 1.33:1 4K aspect ratio. Previously, the show was only available as a standard-definition DVD. Fans who want to own the upscaled episodes can also buy a digital version of the series.

$250 is for the 4k version. $150 is for the blu ray version which sounds more reasonable.

It'd be a much easier buy for Blu-Ray if the aspect ratio was the original. It's weird that it's locked to the 4k release.

Yup, it’s this.

I appreciate collectors / fans / enthusiasts paying a premium for a HQ version of something. I generally don’t do this with TV shows / movies anymore, but I used to so I get it.

The feature / cost ratio here is just out of whack. Good looking versions of the show have been available on streaming platforms for a while and I assume all of the bonus content is repackaged DVD stuff at whatever quality level it was for that release. So this is really just for people who want the best possible / closest to original version of the episodes. That being $250 and locked to the 4K discs is just goofy.

This one is for @SoberChef

I genuinely cannot stand this show, nor Friends. As someone who grew up in the 90's, and someone who was pretty much into horror & action flicks and had zero interest in these "mainstream" shows, I was lost at sea through my teens for sure.

I just meant in terms of a physical release. :p

@SoberChef I also want to say I was a lot like you growing up. In high school I don't even remember what I was into. Stuff like Dying Fetus and Mortician for sure. Watching Troma movies. Always searching for the extremes. So my friends and I would always say Seinfeld sucked sight unseen. The big kerfuffle about the finale being bad didn't do anything for my interest either.

It wasn't until years later when it was in syndication and came to my FOX affiliate. Back then shows like 24 and House would keep you glued to a channel and then the local news but they made a big deal about getting Seinfeld reruns so perhaps out of sheer laziness I started seeing the episodes and enjoyed it. My dad who had never seen it either until this time really ended up loving it as well. So I think it's a genuinely good show.

Now I'm not saying you should buy this set or even go out and watch the show but I'm just saying maybe you don't need to hold it in such high contempt anymore.

As for Friends you can hate on that show all you want. It's nothing like Seinfeld. The funniest thing about it is how little you can laugh at it.

I saw this and got really excited until I saw that $250 price tag. Holy hell. That's about $27.77 per season, and with an average of 12 episodes per season that's about $2.31 per episode, which isn't terrible, but... $250 just sounds like a lot. Oof.

$250 is a lot, but a quibble: Seinfeld was made at a time when you had 20ish episode seasons.

According to Netflix here is the breakdown

Season 1: 5 episodes
Season 2: 12 episodes
Season 3 - 9: Minimum 21 max 23 episodes

So mathematician @Nokra needs to recalculate.

Another post for the "AI is garbage" thread, apparently. I googled "average number of Seinfeld episodes per season" and Gemini came back with 12. :silly:

Actually looking it up, there were a total of 180 episodes, which over 9 seasons averages out to 20 episodes per season, of course. So yeah... ultimately, it's:

$250 / 9 seasons = $27.77 per season

$27.77 / 20 episodes = $1.39.

Preordered! :p
