legend
Why are fewer blacks than whites in favor of legalization when they disproportionally suffer legal consequences for it?

My guess is born again evangelical Christianity and Baptist denominations are very high among the blacks that oppose legalization.

This is correct. The influence of the socially conservative African-American churches very much defines this issue as it did for African American support of same-sex marriage. Hmm. Yeah could be at least a factor. It seems in that plot they only show "white evangelical." Would be interesting to see more religious breakdowns. If racism wasn't as big of an issue within the GOP as it is, the black population would be a natural ally in terms of social conservatism in many areas. Most come to the US fairly religious and with social and fiscal conservative views. Fortunately for the progressive left (but unfortunately for society in most ways), social conservatives in the US are too racist to see their natural allies.
