Paperclyp
I was thinking about upgrading my 6800 to a 7900, but then read they’ll likely announce the 8000 series early next year. So I’m like ok cool I’ll just wait. But now I’m reading they’re going to target mid range rather than be like top tier. Does that make now actually a good time to upgrade? Or should i just wait and see?

If you can wait, you always should.
Spork3245
5000 series is supposedly coming shortly from nVidia, at the very least it’ll drive prices down on both 4000 and 7000 series.
cusideabelincoln
When AMD targets midrange they are pretty aggressive on pricing. The 6800 is still a great card outside of ray-tracing. I would bet they offer a card as powerful as a 7900 for a lower price next gen, so I'd suggest waiting. If you can't wait and want to turn on ray-tracing now, then Nvidia is your best option currently.
