If prices come down a bit I’ll be going Panny for my next OLED. The Z95 series are MLA panels (ie: G3 and G4 LG OLED), the Z85 series are standard WOLED (C series and lower LG OLED). These will have much better image processors than LG and should rival what Sony offers. Panny OLEDs have been great in Europe and Canada afaik. Also, these should have Ambilight built in.

Is it really made by Panasonic or are they just selling their badge to a 3rd party?

It’s Panasonic. These are the same models they already sell in other countries. They never stopped making TVs, they just weren’t selling them in the US

After a gap of 8 years, Panasonic returns to the US market with a high-end, 65-inch OLED TV. I compared it to Samsung and LG OLEDs in the lab.

How long will my Samsung 65inch OLED last? It's 4 years old now.

It’s kind of unknown. OLEDs are typically good for ~100k hours, but other parts could fail before the panel does (ie: RAM, processor, etc).
Just like any electronic device, it may last 20 years, it may last 10, or it might die tomorrow because of a defective part.

All-in-all, unless something unfortunate/unexpected happens, your Samsung will probably be good until you decide you want to upgrade to something else.

I'm trying to ride it through another gen before getting a new one. So basically another 10 years.  :s

If I'm paying more than LG's OLED prices, it would be for a Sony, and I'm certainly not paying more for a built in sound bar or Alexa.

Panny image processors rival Sony and Sony doesn’t have an MLA panel afaik, just regular WOLED and QD-OLED. The 65” Panny MLA panel is launching for cheaper than what the G4 launched at, give it 4 months and it’ll probably be around current G4 prices or cheaper

Are there any major features beside slightly better IQ? Last time I upgraded to my LG OLED, I was upgrading to: OLED, HDR, 4K, 120hz, and VRR, which was a very significant set of features.

Seems like there are not a lot of new display features in the pipe right now besides maybe the next technological shift like equivalent of OLED. 8K seems unappealing because I'm just not convinced it will make a difference unless I start buying truly massive TVs that I don't have the room for.

There’s no reason to upgrade for pure features. It should have a better image processor than LG, but I wouldn’t upgrade for that. The reason to upgrade if you already have a modern OLED would be if you have a basic panel and want a brighter display (MLA) or if you just want a larger TV than you currently have. These are also 144hz just like the new LGs, but I wouldn’t upgrade for that either.

Personally, I want a brighter panel than my CX and keep debating on a G4 anyway.

still have my Panny plasma 65ZT60 from over a decade ago

I still have my TC-P60VT60 but I had to really crank up the brightness when watching the last season of For All Mankind so either it's on its last legs or it's not playing nice with some of the modern video stuff. I did check on my PS5's settings (what I was watching FAM through) that it wasn't trying to do HDR when it shouldn't have so I don't think it was something like that though. I noticed it on a very dark scene where one of the Korean guys' black hair was just completely crushed into the shadow he was standing in. Loaded the scene on my phone and it was not crushed so I eyeballed cranking up the brightness until it looked like on my phone and then it looked good on the TV. And I hadn't touched the calibration settings since it arrived in 2013 so seems like decent odds backlight fading out was the problem

I gave away from TC-P46S2 (2010 purchase) a few years ago because I just don't have anywhere to put a second TV and it was just sitting in my walk in closet. I'd only used it for about 3 years prior to buying the TC-P60VT60 so it should have still had plenty of life on it in terms of the light not giving out.

100% lets go! My LG OLED’s screen has gone to shit after 5ish years. The reds are all weird. Meanwhile my Panasonic 720p Plasma from 2007 still runs like a fucking champ. Probably wait a year and grab one of these next year.

What year and model is your LG? I know the 7 and 8 B and C series had issues with red sub-pixel life being half (or less) than what the other colors were. which causes uneven wear.

Plasma TVs, like CRTs, dim with age unfortunately. It's a shame as Plasmas were already dim AF. When I got my first OLED, coming from a VT60 Panny Plasma, it was almost comically bright in comparison. :p
