Commissar SFLUFAN
He's decided to bitch about the direction of the HBO adaptation of "House of the Dragon" on his blog. Be warned, there are spoilers for the third and fourth seasons of the show in the post. Beware the Butterflies | Not a Blog GEORGERRMARTIN.COM Either shut up and write, or just call the whole thing off, George.

If George were here to read this, he wouldn't respond as it would require writing but he would vaguely address it in some random interview.
skillzdadirecta
Lol he is deflecting. He wants to stay on the good side of fans of the books by ragging on the shows while not having to finish the books. I think he also resents the fact that regular people regard the shows as canon over the books. He's never finishing this series in book form. GeneticBlueprint
He might have the right of it. He might not. I thought season 2 was very good overall. I wish we lived in a world where his input on the TV show (and all his other projects) didn't clash so much with the main thing we want: for him to finish his main book series. But the lack of info on a next installment combined with the actuarial tables for his age and waist circumference indicate that will not happen. Dawnguard2001
All the fans want is George to just finish writing the damn books. Stop blogging about the HBO shows. Stop complaining that they are different. Just finish your story.
Brian
Between this and the Kingkiller Chronicles, I have been hesitant to read any unfinished fantasy series.

I pretty much exclusively read unfinished fantasy series. It's great!
BloodyHell
Even if he released Winds, I wouldn’t waste my time because he’ll never finish the final book. only author I’m more annoyed with is Rothfuss.
Fizzzzle
It's been 13 years since the last book. It's not like he hasn't been writing - Dunc and Egg, House of the Dragon, Elden Ring, Fire & Blood, etc. 13 years means he either doesn't know how to finish the story or just doesn't want to. My theory is he just grew bored of it.

My theory is he just grew bored of it. I think it's because the final two seasons of the show were terrible and some of the conclusions the show did dirty remain the conclusions he had planned out for his books (which will be done in a good way, the books are significantly different than the later seasons of the original show) and everyone hated those conclusions (because the show shortcuts to them, and poorly) so he feels like he's stuck between a rock and a hard place. Then again, he says he's a stream of consciousness writer and recently said he'd have planned things out more when he was writing books 1 and 2. I find this hard to believe though because one of the assets in his writing is how tightly written they are - everything affects something else and it always makes sense, it's like a Rubik's cube. Personally, I think he shouldn't care at all about how people felt about the ending of the show and just write whatever he wants to write, regardless of whether it matches to the show or not. The books have all sorts of additional players in the titular game of thrones that the show didn't have that will surely change the outcomes in the books as opposed to the show and that will be good enough. In fact, if he writes it well as I suspect he will, it'll just shame the show further that there was a right way to do it, and GRRM pulled it off. But then again, I don't think he's finishing this series. I'd take Winds of Winter at least so we can get close to the ending.
