Not for the first time, I've managed to burn myself with Giant Hogweed.

For those that don't know it, Giant Hogweed is a relatively tall plant with white flowers that if cut and the sap lands on skin, will react with sunlight to cause reddening of the skin, then burns and lastly blisters and probably scarring.

When I was about 18, I was strimming a lawn and it got me really badly so I've always been wary. On moving back to the Isle of Man, we found the garden we're going to use was covered in it, so I spent a few days pulling it out by hand, then wheelbarrowing it off to burn. I thought I'd cleared the garden and my wife asked me to strim the garden, though it turns out I was wrong and some less mature plants must have remained. Luckily, I was wearing jeans, a coat and a hat (along with a beard) which kept me relatively safe, but for some stupid reason, I didn't wear my gloves. So now I'm looking at my hands which are red and itchy (distractingly itchy) and I'm waiting for them to now mutate into horrible burned hands...which will be nice.

A reminder to always dress appropriately for all work!

We have it in upstate New York as well. It’s not native, and it looks like lady’s lace so every so often I hear of someone getting burns from it. I know you need to keep it from your eyes as in extreme cases it can cause blinding. I’m sorry you had a tangle with it sir!

Look at someone over here trying to humble brag about his giant hog.

He's bragged about his giant hog before but I think it may have gotten wiped in the old server failure.
