legend
After Hollow Knight and Nine Sols it's hard for me to come back to these retro metroidvanias.

As far as overall design and all that goes, they probably hold up pretty well. But damn, they’re just so stiff. This is based on revisiting the GBA games on Switch, and I can’t imagine these DS titles improved that much.
crispy4000
I beat Dawn of Sorrow back in the day, remember it being okay, but not excellent.

Maybe I should try it again. Husband bought it today and was playing some DoS. I think these games hold up. It's the new style like Hollow Knight I can't get into. I think the first GBA one is a little rough visually and a bit clunky, but still fun. The middle one of those (or was it the third?) had some kind of boring level design. But the DS ones I think are still really good.

CotM is pretty clunky and difficult.
Keyser_Soze
I like these ones more than SOTN so all these haters can go suck eggs!

GameDadGrant
The re-release of the DS games is freakin' AWESOME as-is, but don't sleep on the remake of Haunted Castle which is also included in this collection. It's absolutely a great "Vintage-Vania" game, with cool visuals, tight controls, and FANTASTIC music. (and it won't take up too much of your time, since it's a fairly brisk 6-stage jaunt) And maybe the best (or at least, one of the best) final forms of Dracula. (actually a little terrifying) I beat the remake first, and now I'm replaying Portrait of Ruin, which I'm finding I'm enjoying a lot more than I remember when I played it the first time.
