Brainworm candidate considering dropping out and endorsing Trump

Recommended Posts

Well if he does it I guess the ensuing polling will give us a sense of how many of his voters are dipshits who would prefer to not vote for Trump vs won't vote for Trump.

His time to do this and matter was like a month or so ago.  Then the GOP could have gotten some traction around a Kennedy at the RNC.  Now... who gives a shit?

When is it too late for him to back off the ballots he's qualified for?

Kennedy campaign spent more than $7m in July but only brought in $5.6m

I wonder how much of a difference it makes to people.  I imagine if I was all in on Kennedy and really pushed for him, I’d be pissed if he punked out and endorsed another candidate.  It’s not just going from one Republican to another because they lost the primary, you’re just setting all of the effort people spent for you on fire.

The only thing they have in common is they are both nepo-baby old money millionaires. I guess RFKs anti-vax messaging plays well to a certain segment of Trumps base, but Trump has to be mostly pro-vax so he can use the vaccine as a feather in his cap. They are both hard line pro-Israel zionists. Other than that, I'm pretty sure all of RFK policies are identical to Kamala or further left of Kamala.

Anyone who can flip flop between Trump and RFK is not a serious person. They are a person only interested in vibes and feelings. Nothing of substance.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will "address the nation" Friday morning in Phoenix, as his independent campaign considers whether to drop out of the race and endorse former President Donald Trump.

Trump is holding a rally of his own in Arizona Friday evening.

Beats me, I'm not convinced it matters one way or the other.  His fanbase is tiny and in polling he might as well be "other".

I mean it's registering as a measurable drag on Trump.

Apparently it's too late for him to back off the ballot though where he's qualified. Not sure about places where he's submitted signatures but hasn't qualified yet.

It probably won't have much effect, people that wanted to vote for RFK were more likely to be doing so because they did not want to vote for the GOP or Dem candidate regardless, and will likely pick one of the other stupid 3rd party choices or not vote.

If the reporting is accurate that RFK Jr was in a position where he'd be siphoning votes from Trump, I'd rather he not drop out.  As close as some of these states are looking now (FWIW), it could be a difference maker, no?

Kinda:

  1. Gary Johnson was polling at around 9% at this time in 2016 and ended up getting 3.28% on election day. 3rd parties continue to shrink their influence closer to the election; they're seen as decent alternatives early on, but as the actual election nears, many people jump back to one of the two parties because we are NOT a parliamentary system, and so it's a thrown away vote that gives the candidate no power at all. So with RFK polling at maybe 4 percent now, my guess is many of those voters would jump back to Trump near the end anyway and he'd get maybe 1-2% of the vote. MAYBE. And that's not necessarily in swing states.
  2. The key is to get Harris' numbers up, not worry about a third party. If you're able to attract the majority of voters, it doesn't matter what 3rd parties do.

To the surprise of absolutely no one:

JD Vance, Trump's running mate, told NBC News in an interview that "there's been a lot of communication back and forth" between the two campaigns.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. intends to end his independent presidential campaign and endorse former President Donald Trump, according to two sources familiar with the plans.

The sources cautioned that talks are ongoing, but there will be clarity by the end of the week. One of the sources said the campaigns are working toward a joint appearance.

The decision to drop out will end the most prominent third-party candidacy in the 2024 race. Kennedy announced Wednesday that he will give a campaign speech addressing “his path forward,” days after his running mate said the campaign faced a choice about staying in the 2024 election or dropping out to back Donald Trump.

Kennedy’s campaign announced he will hold the event in Phoenix on Friday. Trump, meanwhile, is also set to host an event on Friday night, in Glendale, a Phoenix suburb.
