Wallace “Wally” Amos, the founder of Famous Amos cookies, has died. He was 88.

Shawn and Sarah Amos, two of his children, said that he died in his Honolulu home on Tuesday, Aug. 13, due to complications of dementia, according to the New York Times. He is also survived by his two other children, Gregory and Michael, and his wife of 45 years, Christine Harris Amos.

PEOPLE reached out to his family and Famous Amos' current owners, but did not immediately hear back.

When I was in high school, the cookies had 2g of trans fat in them. EEK!

But when that was removed, I don't remember the flavor changing. Cookies were heavenly.

I remember my dad telling me a story of when he had to spend weekends in jail a few decades back. He'd keep telling the guy he was sharing a cell with about how all he wanted was some Famous Amos cookies, and the guy got more and more pissed each time, telling my dad to stop reminding him of Famous Amos cookies. My dad thought it was fucking hilarious.
