Star Wars: Skeleton Crew (Disney+ | December 3) - Official Trailer

Recommended Posts

On paper, an Amblin-like adventure that starts in the suburbs and bursts into the wider Star Wars universe sounds like fun. But at this point, I’m deeply skeptical about all non-Andor Star Wars (live action, still never got into any of the animated stuff).

Seeing a suburbs area in Star Wars didn't really feel like Star Wars, it looked more like any movie that takes place on Earth a few hundred years from now. That was weird.

Still, looks like it'll be a fun series aimed more for young kids and families like an '80s adventure movie. I'll watch.

fuck yes. can’t wait for 10 pages of people complaining about this show too

Yeah, we should just say it's awesome when it's not or not watch it in the first place even though to keep up with this universe in general we're sort of obligated to watch everything. :silly:

How is this an argument for the quality of the show though? It's like you're annoyed that bad shows are criticized, which is confusing, because that's how criticism works. Should we all just watch what we like ahead of time to make sure no negative criticism ever happens?

How do I know I won't like the show until I watch it? It's not the same creators from show to show.

While I do try to catch at least the headlines of reviewers I trust, I'm big on avoiding any and all spoilers because I've found going in blind into something, I'm much more inclined to be genuinely surprised and enjoy something rather than what I used to do which is going in knowing too much. So that doesn't work for me. Plus, even if others are hating on it I've found I've liked plenty of things critics and audiences disliked, from The Matrix Resurrections to The Fountain to The Fall to Speed Racer, etc. So for me I likely have to check it out for myself. Just watching what everyone else says is good isn't a good way to define and cultivate your own tastes either.

As someone who has enjoyed lurking in the acolyte thread and witnessing the suffering of the people watching the show people like @GeneticBlueprint aren't haters (unless it's something I like, which is a different story :sickos:)

I don't think people expect to go into a show and think it's bad. Some shows start out well and get bad towards the end (Teri Bauer amnesia episodes anyone?) some start off slow and get good, others never get good and you'll never know if that will happen but it's hard to abandon a show mid stroke, sunk cost fallacy and all that. Plus at only 8 episodes (acolyte anyway) you aren't really losing too much time watching it. Now come back to me when you're watching 16 episodes that are 90 minutes long of a Korean show and you're waiting for something good to happen. That is suffering.

When you are invested in a franchise, it is sometimes hard not to watch part of the series:

1)  Often there are story elements/characters that carry over to other shows/movies (the good ones)

2)  Often, shows start off slow and improve

3)  Sometimes you keep watching things, because someone else in your household doesn't think its as bad as you do

4)  Once you're 5-6 hours in to a series, sometimes you're willing to give up that last 90 minutes to get closure on the series

I consider the most loathed Star Wars movie to be one of if not the best things in the entire franchise/saga (because it is) so if I'm a hater...

i can agree to some of that.

tbh most of the board i don’t think are haters (there’s only one person in here who i think is an “anti-woke” conservative idiot ). yall just do not enjoy it so i think you should stop watching. doesn’t make sense to me to bitch about star wars over and over if you don’t like it. i would just stop watching if i didn’t like the stuff, and i do do that with things all the time i don’t like. but we’re different people. i can easily drop things i care about if i think they also suck.

it does get old seeing the same people in almost every star wars thread complain though 🤷‍♂️ and i know somebody reading this is like well im tired of you complaining about us complaining. shit just doesn’t make sense to me to go on for multiple shows and everybody still tunes in every week hoping that’ll be the week they finally like it

the problem isn’t just one show though. people have complained about acolyte, ahsoka, obi wan, more recent mando, boba fett (hey i wasn’t a big fan of this one!). like come on this is a pattern and some of yall need help letting go!!!

Well I can't speak to every user on the entertainment board but I have (even recently) professed my love for The Last Jedi, Andor, Star Wars: Visions and Star Wars: Tales, all recent Star Wars stuff. I enjoyed a lot of The Mandalorian seasons 1+2 (and parts of 3) and the Mando parts in The Book of Boba Fett were also great. I wasn't down on Ahsoka but expected more from Rebels season 5 was all. I don't think anyone here is hating everything Star Wars (for the most part, as you said) so I give each new show a clean slate, same as I do with all the MCU shows. I'm not carrying hate from one show to the next within a franchise precisely because each show has different creators, showrunners, writers and directors (for the most part, ignoring Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau). Hell, initially I thought between Leslye Headland and Kogonada that The Acolyte would be dope as fuck, not the opposite. I don't hate the Star Wars franchise or the MCU, I just want better from them and some movies and shows deliver and some don't. Disney has been in a slump lately so lately it has seemed like the overreliance on CG, the Voice set, minimal extras or real locations and no proper dedicated producers for each show (at least in the MCU, probably Star Wars as well) are affecting things. You don't go from The Mandalorian and WandaVision and Loki to Secret Invasion and The Acolyte without some production pipeline problems, etc. There is a marked decline in overall quality while they've flooded the market - as fans of the franchise we have every right to express our displeasure so that the powers that be reverse course.

of course we all have the right to voice our displeasure about whatever we want. just think for some of you that it isn’t worth it and you could spend time watching other things that are better. there’s a couple people on this board that have hated almost everything since the last jedi. those people especially need to give it up

I would agree that if you've disliked everything about Star Wars (sans Andor) since the release of The Last Jedi, then yeah, you probably should. But Disney has been on the decline for sure, and you don't just give up on franchises because of that lull, you try to stay a part of it until they turn it around.

The MCU may be doing just that with releasing only one MCU movie this year (Deadpool & Wolverine) to give us all a break and cancelling and/or slowing down their MCU TV release schedule while restructuring all their future movies. Star Wars has gotten lazy lately, and I think all many of us want is to hope that the next show will bring things back to the quality they were at for a bit there.
