YouTube has gone down leaving users unable to access the video sharing website.

The Google-owned streaming service said it was looking into reports of issues with its services after furious users took to Twitter to complain about broadcasting issues.

The outage appeared to be worldwide as visitors were met with a 500 internal server error.

The company appeared to see the funny side of the crash, as the error message read: "A team of highly trained monkeys has been dispatched to deal with this situation."

In a tweet, the company said it was aware of the problem affecting YouTube, YouTube TV and YouTube music.

It said: "Thanks for your reports about YouTube, YouTube TV and YouTube Music access issues. We're working on resolving this and will let you know once fixed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and will keep you updated."
