Free Games Are Out of Control

They’ve been out of control for years now.

Amazon occasionally has some good stuff.  I keep saying Revita is amazing, it was one of the freebies there at some point.

I've decided to load up Baldur's Gate.

Get a launcher like Launchbox or Playnite that will aggregate them all for you.  Since Amazon gives away much of their games as Epic and GOG codes now, it’s kind of a must.  GoG can even do it, I think?  I don’t know if it’s as actively supported since CD Projekt Red consolidated their efforts.

GoG Galaxy keeps losing sync with my other launchers.

I don’t think any of them are perfect, since there’s often under the hood changes that will break things.  But my experience with Launchbox has been generally good, though I’ve heard Playnite can be more straightforward (and doesn’t have its full screen mode behind a paywall).

They do a horrible job of advertising their gaming section.  I couldn’t find it  anywhere on their prime page.  I had to do a google search where it shows there games on Luna.

If you have a twitch account you get an alert that takes you the page. Easy enough to look claim them and forget about them forever.

The more notable Prime pickups I've gotten over the years, that I can remember owning there only, or first:

- Card Shark

- Forager

- Genesis Noir

- The Forgotten City

- Doom 3

- Revita

- The Evil Within 2

- Dishonored 2

- Middle-Earth: Shadow of War

- Scourgebringer

- Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark

- Rain World

- Steamworld Quest

- Frostpunk

- Dragon Age Inquisition

- Control: Ultimate Edition

- Journey to the Savage Planet w/ DLC

- Yoku's Island Express

- Furi

- Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair

- Kunai

- Blazing Chrome

- Blasphemous

- Grime

- Endling: Extinction is Forever

Amazon is a slow burn compared to Epic giveaways, but there's legitimately great rewards for being attentive to it.  Many if not most things through their launcher are also DRM free, and are downloadable even if your sub lapses.

I came to it somewhat late, towards the end of 2021 if I recall.  It's definitely not worth a prime subscription in itself, but it doesn't need to be.

Playnite is ace. My epic free gaming has a LOOOOONG sidebar. I didn't even bother to see what they were.
