Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven - Coming to Switch, PS4/5, and Steam October 24, 2024 [TGS 2024 Trailer]

I had no idea this was coming. With the Romancing SaGa 1 remake that came out recently, that was basically a remaster of a PS2 remake of the original SNES game. But Romancing SaGa 2 (and 3) never received such PS2 remakes, so they had to make this one from the ground up based on the recent remaster they did of the original SNES release (same they did recently with 3) which isn't much to go on. SaGa has its diehard fanbase given it's a very niche series but it must be doing well enough or creator Akitoshi Kawazu has a lot of pull at Square Enix since they've remastered all the games in the series recently (except for SaGa Frontier 2 and Unlimited SaGa which I think they'll do eventually) and we even got two new games in the series with Scarlet Grace: Ambitions and Emerald Beyond, all of which have seen a US release and are all on PC. Now we're getting remakes. This pretty much means we'll hopefully get a remake of Romancing SaGa 3 then too.

Well after the latest thing Square Enix said about focusing on major series I'm not so sure, this goes against that but it was already in the pipe. Better hope it sells like 10 million copies. :p

Yeah I was thinking about that too which made me more confused since making more SaGa titles from the ground up like Emerald Beyond and this seems to go against what they announced but it's true they were already in the pipeline. I mean, we're two remasters and one remake away from finishing off this entire series so that's all I ask they give at this point, but given their announcement about reducing projects that now seems unlikely, which is a shame.

Saga continues because one of the guys on the original team is high up and uses his clout to keep it going. It's interesting this is getting a 3d remake, I had assumed they would go more with a HD-2D style remake at some point. I didn't enjoy the latest game but still have fun with the older titles in the series.

Yeah, that's likely original creator Akitoshi Kawazu, who has been around from the beginning and made Final Fantasy II before the SaGa games, FF2 being the most SaGa of the FF games. Even with that clout I'm surprised.

Oooo.. it seems that the company who did the trials of mana remake is behind this. Overall I enjoyed the word that they did for the remake.

You said you didn't enjoy the last game. Were you referring to Scarlet Grace: Ambitions, Emerald Beyond or the recent Romancing SaGa 1 remaster of PS2 remake Minstrel Song?

Emerald Beyond. I haven’t tried the full game but the story and intro in the demo was dull. I haven’t played much of Scarlet Grace (it’s on my backlog) but I enjoyed what I played of it more than I did EB.

I haven't played it yet myself but it does seem like everyone hated the Emerald Beyond demo. I've heard for SaGa fans though that the final, full game is much better than the demo though of course it's still an idiosyncratic SaGa game. Scarlet Grace: Ambitions is supposed to be pretty legit as well.
