The week of greatness is upon us! Praise the shadows! The Shadow of the Erdtree will release to the world this Thursday/Friday depending on where you live. More on that below. Quick fact sheet:

What: Elden Ring DLC, expected to be quite large with a new leveling mechanic specific to this DLC

How Much: $39.99

Why: Hush now - or see below for more details

Date/Time of Release:

r/xbox - Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree global release times

Will there be a collector's edition? Is this a big business or not? Of course there will be a collector's edition:

* Note - Due to production issues, the art book portion is delayed until July 25th. You can also buy Malenia's Arm if you feel like you need an extra arm in your life. See here for limb acquisition:

OK, I'm sold! How do I start this DLC? To play the DLC you need to have defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood and touch the limb hanging from the cocoon at the back of the Mohgwyn Palace:

Mohg Lord of Blood stares down at the player in Elden Ring.

This dork is Mohg

Miquella's arm and cocoon will be your access point to the Land of Shadow.

Here is the cocoon, egg, sag thing...lovely!

What's this all about now? I don't want to spoil it for myself, so I've mostly avoided the details of this DLC. Here is a video that claims to tell you a bunce of stuff about this DLC:

  • Mr.Vic20 changed the title to Shadow of the Erdtree - Launch Week Hype & Impressions Thread

I started a new game yesterday morning, and I’m already on my way to the Capital with 2 Great Runes in hand. I’ll slow way down when I have to go back to work on Wednesday, but I’ll be ready to go by next weekend for sure.

ALL ABORD THE HYPE TRAIN!!!

Gonna try and finish this by the weekend. I’m at the Godskin twins

Man I really hated those two the first time through. I can lend a hand if you want it, I'm level 340 and can stomp most enemies in the base game, even with my average skills.

I think I’m ready to actually give the base game a proper go and see if the freedom allows me to overcome my shite gaming skills.

On a VERY good day, I am a very average gamer. Elden Ring has enough wiggle room to reward the patient as well as the skilled. As always, the early game is often the hardest portion as you equipment and skills are at their most limited. If you persevere though, the difficultly will ease up, with a few rough spikes here and there.

I think you will be ok. Elden Ring is the first souls game i actually beat! If you hit one wall, just ride off into a whole new area of the map and explore. Before you know it, you are leveling up getting stronger and learning new skills along the way.

This is not HYPE, please try again! :sun:

I'm just not good at games so this is just intimidating to me. I know you say you're average but I'm even below that skill level.

So it’s not something I actually look forward to. I'm sure for those that were successful in the base game will have a great time with the dlc.

I read a preview that said the character they had for the preview was level 150 (the level i’m at in my save) and still super challenging… :s

It seems like you need to participate in a little more "Turtlecide"!

Now I know they have the faces of children look upward to seek the approving gaze of a parent, but you must close your heart to these thoughts! Mow them down like wheat at harvest and reap the power of their mass liquified souls! :sun:

nah i can beat them... I just need to acclimate myself back to the gameplay loop of this game after Lies of P, Rise of the Ronin and Wo-Long... all games that play faster than this.

It feels so go good to be back in The Lands Between. Between yesterday and today I’ve played 15 hours. :epilepsy: I can’t think of the last time I’ve gone that hard on one game. Honestly, it was probably back at the launch of Elden Ring.

Considering how most of them just sit there until you attack them, I see it as a mercy. They long for death.

I haven't played in so long that I'm pretty sure I'm just going to use the mimic tear and steamroll bosses instead of actually trying lol

Yeah mine is maxed out too so I HOPE it helps with some of the DLC bosses

I'll attempt to play the DLC on my first character which is on NG+3 or 4, but if it's scaled too much I'll fall back to a fresh character where I'm currently collecting all items and a little over halfway through the game. Most of the quests are about done which took up a lot of time with all of the running back and forth. I think I'll only need to farm the ugly frog people to upgrade weapons and buy items; it's just too tedious to do it for leveling up.
