Greatoneshere
One of my favorite manga/anime of all time. A fighter isn't exactly what I expect from Hunter x Hunter (give me something more like the Sand Land open world game) but I like seeing Hunter x Hunter being supported.

It looked rough until ASW put their name on it.

Greatoneshere
I'll always take fresh HunterxHunter animation - looks nice. I have no interest in the game but this is making me want to watch the 2011 remake anime. I've only ever read the manga and watched the excellent 1990's anime adaptation. The manga is still unfinished but the 2011 anime adapts more so should make it worthwhile.

Spawn_of_Apathy
I’ve been bored with the trope of adapting anime into fighting games for over decades at this point. I know why they do it. It’s easier than making a full action adventure game set in the world. But in a world like HunterXHunter and pre-shippuden Naruto, One Piece, etc I would have loved a game where I create my own character and set out in my own adventure to become a legendary badass, because there are legendary badasses in those worlds that are not the main character. Maybe I am in the minority, but I do not get how Dragon Ball Z games in the past kept selling when all they did was have you relive and refight the same fights from the manga/anime over and over and over again with each new entry. It’s so boring and lacks creativity, and I’ve already seen those fights. I wanted something new.

Yeah, licensed anime games have gotten better these days but expecting One Piece: Horizon Forbidden West edition is bound to never happen unfortunately. So anime fans try to get excited over the low bar they're usually given.

I bought/imported some Naruto fighting games on the GameCube back in the day, and I just played though Star Wars Outlaws because I wanted to play a star Wars game. I’m just saying I wish devs would do more than keeping making fighting games with anime licenses.
Keyser_Soze
I think you're conflating "games that have fighting" with "fighting games" Something like Dragon Ball FighterZ and this game are straight up legit fighting games (like a street fighter) - It wouldn't make sense to make your own fighter and not relive old fights (because you don't do that in these games). Now as for things like Sparking Zero and Budokai, those are just trash games people buy.
