Oh you all know Reagan would be a total Putin-glazed chud if he were still around.

Nah he wouldn't. Different kind of Republican back then...They were all about "The Red Scare". Growing up in the 80's the Russians were the boogey man for EVERYTHING in America and Reagan helped create that. They guy actually ratted people out in the 50's when he was an actor in Hollywood during the whole McCarthy thing. Honestly Reagan would be considered a Rhino by today's Republicans. Too focused on world affairs for one thing.

Right. I was just saying, don’t underestimate the power of the modern conservative culture war. Plenty of boomers out there who were screaming about the pinko commies thirty years ago are now gobbling up all of Putin’s horseshit.

Yeah but those are the followers who go along with whatever Fox News and Trump would tell them. At best Reagan would be chased out of the party like the Bushes and The Cheney's. Even if he sold out his own priniciples, which I doubt he would in the case of the Russians, he wouldn't be an influential part of the party. The dude's whole legacy is based on "defeating communism". At best Reagan would be a "man without a country" today with THIS Republican party. The current Republican party pretty much pretends that Republican political orthodoxy regarding foreign policy for the most part doesn't exist.

As I'm pretty sure I've explained before,, the attitude of the Cold War-era Republican Party -- Ronald Reagan included -- had very little to do with "Russia", but had everything to do with the Soviet Union/communism.  If Russia had remained a conservative, tsarist monarchy or similar rightist state (as it is under Putin), they would've had zero issues with Russia whatsoever and there would've been no "Red Scare" at all.

The only thing conservatives didn’t like about the Soviet Union then and China* today are their surface level identification with leftist ideology. They fucking love the totalitarianism

*they also hate them cause they’re nonwhite too
