Minnesota governor signs pro-life legislation

Nice! We now have free school breakfast/lunches in California and my daughter's been loving it, and so have I. Even though we're fortunate enough to be able to provide lunch for her every day regardless, they have some good choices that have introduced her to foods I wouldn't have thought to have her try at 8 years old that she has loved. But more importantly, I remember how fucking much it sucked whenever I had to go to school without lunch. It's so distracting and detrimental to school to be hungry all day. I remember eventually I had a lunch card for free lunches but forgot the code after a long break and couldn't get lunch. Despite it being just one lunch I missed I remember how miserable I felt realizing I wouldn't be able to eat.

And I did have lunches almost all of the time! We had a few hiccups with money every once in a while so I missed probably less than 1% of school lunches, I cannot imagine how it is for someone who just... goes to school every day hungry. Let alone worse in truly poverty-stricken areas.

IIRC it also helps a lot with the school social dynamics that can come from kids being able to be sure who's getting the free lunch because their parents can't afford to pack lunch or send lunch money.
