Teaching AP black studies is ‘inexplicably’ against the law according to Ron DeSantis

My girlfriend and I have been following this for the past week or whatever and it's important to read the actual content because it paints the picture clearer of how insidious and blatant the DeSantis regime is. The details are somehow even more alarming considering they're claiming "historical inaccuracy" and won't (can't) provide any actual example from the 81 page curriculum despite being asked to do so several times.

No facts, just vibes.

There's a sullenness to discuss the conditions of African Americans because that would mean opening the can of worms that is the Atlantic slave trade, in turn, basically upending 'traditional' western anthropology into an uncomfortable corner. Much of the denial today is about belaying reparations as long as possible.

Some topics rejected by Gov. Ron DeSantis and other Florida officials are not included in the current version of the AP African American studies course.

The new framework, however, addresses many of the concerns Florida raised and those topics are not included, or they are included only as optional project topics. Coleman was firm that the changes to the framework have been in the works for a year.

....

Coleman noted that the process of “moving beyond the pilot materials” of the course has taken a year and involved consulting with about 300 professors. He also said no state has seen the framework before it was released on Wednesday.

I feel a high degree of certainty that the DeSantis administration got tipped off to the changes ahead of the announcement and made their big stink about it last week so as to try and create a sense that the changes were because of them.

This makes sense, and to be honest the media is playing right in to it. I've read a few articles this morning about the College Board revisions, and am trying to understand how the opinion and statements of a single governor impacted nationwide curriculum, yet every article is tying the two together.

In a recent letter to the College Board, state officials list a series of emails and meetings over the last year, often discussing course material about race that state regulations might bar.
