Paul Manafort, President Trump’s former campaign chairman and one of Washington’s most prominent lobbyists, is close to a plea deal with federal prosecutors to avoid a trial scheduled for next week on charges stemming from work he did for pro-Russia political forces in Ukraine, people familiar with the case said on Thursday.

So far, four former Trump aides have pleaded guilty to charges related to the special counsel investigation: Michael D. Cohen, the president’s longtime personal lawyer; Michael T. Flynn, the former national security adviser; Rick Gates, the former deputy campaign chairman; and George Papadopoulos, a former campaign adviser.

This adds both the Federal Savings Bank account listed for forfeiture in the EDVA case, and the Capital One case. And these are subject to both civil and criminal forfeiture, so Trump can’t pardon them away.

Update: On Twitter, several people note that with this forfeiture, the Mueller investigation just more than paid for itself.

Manafort is going away for years, and I am starting to think there is some real validity to the argument that Manafort isn't staying quiet because he is scared of Trump being mean to him, he's scared of Russians killing him or his family if he rats.

Before Manafort pleaded guilty, Weissmann gave a 40-minute description of the criminal conduct in the case.

“I believe it’s fair to say that’s probably the longest and most detailed summary that ever preceded this question, but is what the prosecutor said a true and accurate description of what you did in this case,” Jackson asked Manafort.

“I did. It is,” Manafort, said

It's pretty rough when it takes 40 minutes to describe all the crimes you're pleading guilty to in your second trial.

Mueller isn't playing around.

“At one point, Manafort wrote to an associate, “I have someone pushing it on the NY Post. Bada bing bada boom.”

This man wrote out "Bada bing bada boom.” He deserves to be in prison.
