Watching some streams of the BR mode. Looks like it apes the formula pretty well. Fast paced, you can heal while you move and appears like the performance is good. Also like how the structures are pretty big, like that skyscraper area.

Having not played it and only watched it, I would say yes only because (even though you said for BR alone) the value is higher in that if you get tired for the BR you could play other modes. However, if you don't like the thought of paying $69.99 for a multiplayer only game I'd say no, I think $40 would be the sweet spot but Activision really hates price drops.

 

So maybe, in the end I'm saying no.

 

On the flipside I would  expect the post launch support to be pretty good so the game should be updated a bunch (maps, weapons, other shit)

Yes if you’re going to play a lot of BR. It’s done really well but you’d have to play it a good ammount of time to justify the $60 price tag.

Turns out BR is a huge draw. I wonder if BF is going to find success here as well. As much as the beta felt undercooked, the emergent wackiness of BF is perfect for the series. I am also curious to see if BLOPS has the staying power to compete with fortnite on twitch. 

 

For me personally, the game looks to sterile and I've found a BR game I like.

Believe me, brother, I don't take it too seriously!  However, I do try to be respectful of others.

 

Man, Biggie, in one team deathmatch, I was doing so poorly and the game was sooooo tight that on my last respawn I just hid behind a crate for the last 30 seconds.  We were down 72-73, without me that would be an advantage of 71-62.  We ended up winning 75-74.

 

My dutiful laying low won the match for us!

From what I've read it seems Battle Royale is the main reason to get this. It's like a polished version of PUBG but with helicopters. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have any progression system yet. Players seem to think the regular pvp is boring and the zombie mode is over complicated.

What if it would've sold 5x had it appeared on Steam? I think the big selling point here is the Battle Royale mode, not the Battle.net presence. I mean, that's obvious, but is it obvious to anyone with the brains to ask the right questions and the power to put those thoughts into action?

It's possible because making shitloads of money is more important to Treyarch then throwing a few dollars into better servers...that the beta strangely had.

Killzone 2? Yeah they all pale in comparison.

Barebones Battle Royale Mode?  I’ve played pretty much all the Battle Royales out to date and this is one of the best to be out out.  The reworked the guns, found a way to implement the perks and equipment from regular multiplayer, and even have mini objectives like the zombie spawns all within the game.  To define it as bare bones is rather dismissive and ignorant.

They used the character model with largest hit box as the basis for all hit boxes.

They need to revamp (ie: have) their character customization. Unify it between at least BR and regular multiplayer. It’s odd because they do a great job making you feel like you’re earning stuff and putting your personal stamp on everything but your ... uuuhhhhh ... person. 

 

But other than that there’s not much bare bones about the BR mode, and I’m sure they’ll make big changes as the go. 

 

And this “making you pay for content already on the disc” shit is like a 6th grader argument from 2007. 

 

The disc is fucking meaningless. If you think other games are giving you content off the disc and only charging you for the other stuff after the fact, I dunno what to tell you. You fundamentally misunderstand how games have worked for like a decade.

It can have all the RNG guns and perks scattered all over the map but since it has no decent progression system you're basically playing just to play. Other Battle Royale games have carrots to chase. While it does have characters to unlock it takes ages to get them. Maybe Treyarch will add them later but as it is now it's just a better version of PUBG in first person.

I actually kinda like that for Blackout, where the characters are all just cosmetic, so none should have a hitbox advantage. Less so on multiplayer where all the characters are definitely different.

 

The tickrate is bad, though, and needs to be improved.

 

And no, it's not a barebones Battle Royale mode. It's easily the best, most polished, most fun, most varied one I've played by far. The perks and weapons and cool items and smooth movement make it leagues above anything else.

Ended up buying this game Thursday night. Boredom and a little alcohol ended up with me pushing the buy button on the psn hoping to dig in more tonight after a busy ass weekend with no game time. I strangely like the pyro guy in multiplayer. I haven't played the specialist mode to understand all of their power ups but i  liked the few matches I played when the guy starts making a field of radioactive burning death around him. First time using him I even got 3 flamethrower kills in a row. Felt good

20hz tickrate and bad hitboxes are probably the two biggest complaints so far.

Have you followed it at all?  It's been a week?  They obviously have all this planned.

 

 

And to be honest, a good Battle Royale doesnt need carrots to chase, the gameplay, intensity, and thrill of winning is enough.  Its good old school fun, not meaningless carrots to chase, finding ways for you to play the same 6 missions over hundreds of times like Destiny did. Its nice to have things to unlock, but the game is just pure fun to play right now.
