Same.

Theres another game called Myth of Wu Kong or something similar, and I feel the same about that so far. Looks beautiful, but tells me nothing.

Wu Kong is from Gina and this game is from established badasses so that's all you need to know.

Being developed as Team NINJA’s next step after Nioh, it should come as no surprise that the majority of Wo Long’s DNA can be traced back to Team NINJA’s first attempt at the Soulslike genre. However, judging from the teaser trailer, Wo Long appears to be even more dark and grim than Nioh. Could that mean that Wo Long will be even more merciless to the player?

“Making it a challenging game was something we had decided from the beginning. With all the legendary heroes of the Three Kingdoms period, it can come across as somewhat campy, but in reality it was a time of war and devastation. It was a dark period in which people were constantly fighting, which is a great match for a Soulslike game. Being set in China, Wo Long is more massive in scale compared to our previous games set in Japan, which allowed us to show a more severe and dark world. The same can be said for the difficulty. There’s no doubt this will be an extremely challenging and demanding game, but we’ve come up with new ways to approach that difficulty. In that regard, players can look forward to a type of satisfaction that wasn’t present in earlier Team NINJA titles,” said Yasuda.

While being built on the foundations shaped by Nioh, it seems that Wo Long has some tricks of its own up its sleeve. If anything, the Chinese setting will have a direct impact on both the combat’s systems and aesthetics.

“We wanted to take the unique elegance of Chinese martial arts and make it work as a stylish form of action. Utilizing this action to overcome challenging battles should create an experience like no other. Since the game is set during the wartime of the Three Kingdoms period, we came up with a system that revolves around the warrior’s morale. Both the player and enemies have a morale status, which will lead to new strategies within the Soulslike genre,” said Yamagiwa.

I don't think it will be a Musou game, especially coming from these people who don't make Musou games.

It's definitely not a Musou game :p

I'll be honest, I think Elden Ring might've been this Souls template's swan song for me. They really need to shake this formula up majorly, Elden Ring kind of pushed it to its logical conclusion.

That's what my brain tells me. Yet I read Nioh and Bloodborne dudes are joining forces and I almost got aroused.

Nioh 2 is probably my favorite game in the last 2 years, I can't wait for this! I'm still playing it 500 hours later and I still haven't reached the true end. It's an amazing experience.

Is it as hard as games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro and Elden Ring? I often find Soulslike games to be more frustrating than fun despite liking a lot about them. I like to be challenged in games, but not to the point where I want to throw my controller through my TV. I play games for enjoyment and entertainment which I don’t get from games that royally piss me off. I like the Soulslike design formula, but I don’t like how difficult that they usually are. I keep hoping for a Soulslike game that isn’t punishingly difficult, or at least offers difficulty settings so that I can adjust the challenge to my liking.

Nioh is way harder in some aspects. The combat system is deep and customizable and takes time to master. It's not as simple to pick up as Souls games by a long shot. Think of it more as a Character Action game in a Souls template but with self-contained levels.

Nioh, Nioh 2, or both? I just bought Nioh 2 because it was only $15, so I guess that I’ll find out how challenging it is for me when I play it.

Both. You just have to stick with it, if you do, you'll find it's very rewarding and you get a ton of bang for your buck. Once you learn the enemies it gets a lot easier but it'll be a while before you get there.

I only played a ton of the first one. Nioh 2's demo was really disappointing to me with them doubling down on all the stuff I didn't like in the first one and just adding more stuff onto an already pretty overstuffed game. Ended up never buying it.

While the new trailer for Team Ninja’s highly anticipated Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty contains actual gameplay for the first time, there’s still a lot we don’t know about Team Ninja’s new Soulsborne title. Most notably, after making two installments of the Nioh series, the team decided to go in a somewhat new direction - and we wanted to know how it differs.

IGN sat down with producer Fumihiko Yasuda and development producer Masaaki Yamagiwa to find out how Wo Long is different from the developer’s popular past series. The most obvious thing that sets Wo Long apart from Team Ninja’s previous efforts is its setting, and it seems that this new location will differentiate Wo Long from Nioh in multiple ways.

“Being set in China, we were able to create locations of much greater scale than in Nioh, which was set in Japan,” Yasuda says. “Even something like a castle is much bigger than before, and exploration has become more vertical because the player character in Wo Long can jump,” he adds.

I played a bit this morning. They throw A LOT of mechanics at you right off the bat. Def seems like parrying and counter attacking will be the main combat loop. I dunno seems pretty cool, I like all the different combat options. Def a learning curve.

I need to give this more of a chance. I have a habit of starting games like this and when they don’t I’ve up to the smoothness of a From Souls game I dismiss them.
