Spawn_of_Apathy
Just now, Keyser_Soze said: I don't think you can preorder it anywhere. You can't on steam. Just buy it the day it's released. 🤷 oh, I was not aware. I didn’t need to preorder it, but thought they might miss some eyes by not being in the coming soon section. Maybe that costs money they don’t or can’t spend right now.

Windows Central - Cole Martin - 5 / 5 Quote The Plucky Squire combines 2D action-adventure with 3D platforming for a 4th wall breaking good time while serving as a family-friendly love letter to the art and literature that creatively inspires us. ZTGD - Terrence Johnson - 10 / 10 Quote The Plucky Squire is an absolute triumph of artistry and gameplay. I didn’t even mention the stellar narration that is done by Philip Bretherton, his voice gives the tale being told a certain gravatas, I do wish that the individual characters were voiced but you don’t really miss it with the amazing music and killer narrator. The Plucky Squire’s a charming, inventive, and utterly delightful adventure that deserves a place in every gamer’s collection. Whether you’re drawn to its unique mechanics, captivating story, or simply the joy of exploring a beautifully crafted world, this game offers something special for everyone. Don’t miss out on this enchanting journey—The Kingdom of Mojo needs their hero! ZdobywcyGier.eu - Paweł Bortkiewicz - Polish - 10 / 10 Quote The Plucky Squire is one of the best games of this year. The highly varied gameplay perfectly combines with a creative approach to building the game world in both 2D and 3D sequences. The above elements, combined with near-perfect technical condition and very good sound design, put this production next to the best games of the year. WellPlayed - Ash Wayling - 9.5 / 10 Quote A wickedly creative romp through a basic storybook tale of good versus evil that ends up being anything but basic, The tale of Jot and his merry band of mates is one that you will easily enjoy - remembered long after that final page has been turned. LevelUp - Santiago Villicaña - Spanish - 9.3 / 10 Quote The Plucky Squire was worth the wait; it's the definition of indie perfection: it has a lot of quality, heart, soul, innovation and charm. Thanks to the characters, their personality, the world and all the creative things it does constantly, it has become one of our games of the year and one that we will remember with a lot of love. Explosion Network - Dylan Blight - 9 / 10 Quote A magical journey from start to finish that hooked me from page to page. GameSpew - Kim Snaith - 9 / 10 Quote We've been absolutely spoiled by excellent platforming games recently, and The Plucky Squire is up there with the best of them. Controlling Jot in this fourth-wall-breaking adventure is an utter delight. It's a shame a few bugs persist, but they're not quite enough to stop The Plucky Squire being one of the highlights of the year so far. Gamers Heroes - 90 / 100 Quote The Plucky Squire oozes creativity and charm on every page. It stands aside Balatro and Animal Well as one of the best indie games of the year. GamingBolt - Ravi Sinha - 9 / 10 Quote The Plucky Squire is charming, offering an involving story and enjoyable gameplay with unique hooks, even if it takes some time to open up. GamingTrend - David Flynn - 90 / 100 Quote The Plucky Squire is an adorable adventure for everyone to enjoy. It has some issues, like glitches and a less than stellar story, but plucky really is the right word to describe the game. It's technically ambitious and impressively varied, making it easy to forgive its shortcomings. God is a Geek - Lyle Pendle - 9 / 10 Quote The Plucky Squire is a game oozing with charm and positivity, and the clever word and book based puzzles will keep you gripped from start to finish. Kakuchopurei - Jonathan Leo - 90 / 100 Quote The Plucky Squire may not be the most challenging game you'll play. It is, however, the most charming, most beautiful, and most engrossing of these 2D action-adventure titles you'll have the pleasure of experiencing. Niche Gamer - Brandon Lyttle - 9 / 10 Quote Ultimately, I loved my time with The Plucky Squire, the developers clearly have the fundamentals of platforming down and compensate for a lack of difficulty with its heartwarming story and cute characters (Moonbeard is my favorite). The feel-good story will capture both adults and children, as will the forgiving (but fun!) gameplay and puzzles. All Possible Futures does a fantastic job using the tropes of fairy tales to tell a sincere story of fate, heroism, and the responsibility to have faith in ourselves to change and grow. One More Game - Chris Garcia - 9 / 10 Quote The Plucky Squire is a creative triumph and certainly lives up to the hype ever since it was first announced. The full experience is wonderful, often employing a change of mechanics from one level to the next, keeping players on their toes with fresh gameplay. The Plucky Squire deserves a spot on anyone's list of titles to look forward to this year. It is a refreshing game amidst the barrage of AAA titles, and certainly a reminder that falling back to depend on a creatively fun and polished experience can do no wrong. Press Start - Brodie Gibbons - 9 / 10 Quote The Plucky Squire is absolute magic, and a page-turner, from beginning to end. From its first, boisterously narrated word, the game packages so much heart and character within a rather novel, wildly creative notion. It takes what Pixar did for toys and applies it to storybooks. Shacknews - Ozzie Mejia - 9 / 10 Quote One of the central focuses of The Plucky Squire's story is that it's a tale that inspires hope in all of the children who read it. I'm hopeful that this game will inspire any would-be developer who plays it, because it's a true expression of what's possible through gaming. Tom's Hardware Italia - Andrea Riviera - Italian - 9 / 10 Quote All Possible Futures, in their first challenge, deliver a meticulously crafted work of art that surprises with several unexpected twists, sure to leave you smiling more than once. If you're in the mood for a light-hearted story, suitable for everyone, with highly original level design, then The Plucky Squire is the game for you: a simple adventure capable of warming your heart. Twinfinite - Jake Su - 4.5 / 5 Quote Hooking me right from the start and eliciting pure joy all the way to the end, The Plucky Squire has gone the extra mile in rewriting what should be expected out of an action-adventure such as this. By drawing from classic inspirations and adding its own spin on things, this is a game that leverages its creativity in all the good ways, and ultimately writes a happy ending not just for Jot and his friends, but hopefully, also for the future of its creators. video games are good - Nathan Hermanson - 9 / 10 Quote Simply put, The Plucky Squire is a celebration of the creative spirit; of how art can inspire others to create for themselves; of childhood imagination never burning out. If you were the kind of kid who saw entire worlds in your toy chest, who daydreamed about books so much you got chastised by teachers for not paying attention to the books they wanted you to read, or who immediately pretended you were the hero of a movie you just watched on the way out of a theater, The Plucky Squire sings to that part of you that still burns inside. It's a constantly changing adventure of a game that'll take you through genres and ideas you thought you'd left behind years ago, through a world so playful and joyous, and with a character so darned plucky, that you just might walk away ready to create something magical of your own one day. The Games Machine - Marco Bortoluzzi - Italian - 8.7 / 10 Quote The game looks great, especially the 2D parts and their animations. While it's geared toward kids, it's still a fun game for adults, too. IGN Italy - Alessandro Alosi - Italian - 8.5 / 10 Quote A stylish, distinctive, and intriguing action-adventure platformer. It's not challenging, long, or mechanically deep, but it oozes magic from every 2D or 3D pore. PSX Brasil - Portuguese - 85 / 100 Quote Quote not yet available TechRaptor - Tanushri Shah - 8.5 / 10 Quote The Plucky Squire is an incredible action-adventure game combining 2D and 3D, but needs just a little more shine. GamePro - Maximilian Franke - German - 83 / 100 Quote The Plucky Squire is a creative and beautiful adventure game that has not yet reached its full potential. Analog Stick Gaming - Jeff M Young - 8 / 10 Quote The Plucky Squire has a lot of incredible moments, with a scale of creativity that is often executed well. Unfortunately, the 3D sections are nowhere as interesting as the 2D elements, and often fail at using the best qualities of the mechanics to really stand out. All that said, when The Plucky Squire is leaning on its best ideas, it’s a truly engaging and creative title that should be experienced. But Why Tho? - Eddie De Santiago - 8 / 10 Quote The whole third act will especially leave you smiling like a fool, because at its core, The Plucky Squire is good, simple fun. Checkpoint Gaming - Elliot Attard - 8 / 10 Quote The Plucky Squire may be one of the most exceptionally presented video games in recent memory. In moving from the 2D space to the 3D space, a sense of wonder is created that's unrivalled by the vast majority of other releases. That sense of wonderment is captured in the storytelling as well, which leans on the charm of children's fiction. Perhaps a little too scared to create complex depth to the puzzles or gameplay, more mature audiences may find the game lacking in some regard. However, that doesn't stop the title from being widely appealing and an absolute delight from prologue to epilogue. Eurogamer - Christian Donlan - 4 / 5 Quote An ingenious puzzle-platformer that takes players from a children's book and out into the wider world around it. GAMES.CH - Olaf Bleich - German - 80% Quote The Plucky Squire is a charming, funny and beautiful action-adventure. It oozes creativity and merges 2D- and 3D-gameplay to a clever action-plattformer. While the game does have issues regarding controls and pacing, the overall experience is great. GamesRadar+ - Katie Wickens - 4 / 5 Quote The Plucky Squire makes for a fascinating interplay of 2D and 3D puzzles, battles, and diverse minigames. Marooners' Rock - Frank V. - 8 / 10 Quote The Plucky Squire is an incredibly inventive and unique amalgamation of 2D and 3D gameplay. Its charming little story is played out with a comedic tone and sarcastic humor that is a welcomed accompaniment to the incredibly fun-to-play gameplay. There were times it felt like Earthbound and others Zelda; however, The Plucky Squire was able to form an identity of its own through its glowing personality. While a tad on the easy side, The Plucky Squire is an artful and entertaining story worth exploring. MonsterVine - Joe Bariso - 4 / 5 Quote The Plucky Squire is a fun & fresh take on a classic game style, full of heart with a great message for all ages. Just because a story seems simple, doesn't mean it doesn't matter. Prima Games - Ali Hashmi - 8 / 10 Quote The Plucky Squire is an endlessly charming adventure that tells a wholesome story thanks to its likable cast and lighthearted tone. Jumping from 2D to 3D spaces is technically impressive, no matter how often you've seen the effect play out. Push Square - Stephen Tailby - 8 / 10 Quote The Plucky Squire is a delightful adventure that surprises with fun ideas in every chapter. The world within the book offers unique puzzles and challenges, which is compounded by Jot's ability to leap from its pages into the third dimension. Though the combat's kinda flat, and some elements deserve to be used more often than they are, there's an undeniable joy to the game's constant imaginative ideas. It's a short but sweet game that'll win over players of all ages. The Outerhaven Productions - Jordan Andow - 4 / 5 Quote The Plucky Squire is a wonderful experience from start to finish. I just wish that the 3D sections were on par with those in 2D. Regardless, this is a title that everyone needs to play, because they won’t be disappointed. TheGamer - Ben Sledge - 4 / 5 Quote While it could serve to offer more of a challenge and some quests feel a little rote, the times when The Plucky Squire twists genre convention and blends 2D and 3D puzzles are a sparkle of imagination in the genre. WayTooManyGames - Heidi Hawes - 8 / 10 Quote I absolutely adored The Plucky Squire. It takes the simplicity of older 2D games and mixes it with the fun exploration found in more modern 3D puzzle platformers. My only complaint is that I found the puzzles to be a bit too devoid of challenge, as I would have loved to have seen more done with the page-turning, book-shifting concepts they introduced. Still, this is a game that is truly something unique and can be enjoyed by everyone, especially with all the accessibility options available. Stevivor - Steve Wright - 7.5 / 10 Quote While both Astro Bot and The Plucky Squire are about creativity and joy, the latter manages to get in its own way in comparison. The result is jarring. XboxEra - Jon Clarke - 7.5 / 10 Quote The Plucky Squire is a game clearly made with a serious amount of love for the wonderful medium of glorious interactivity that is video games. And for it being the first title from development team All Possible Futures, it’s a staggering achievement in art, design and ideas. It’s just a shame the gameplay didn’t get as much attention as the nostalgia it so skilfully indulges. Everyeye.it - Gennaro Saraino - Italian - 7 / 10 Quote When it came to the end credits, the writer immediately thought: if I had a daughter or a son, I would recommend them to play The Plucky Squire in my company. IGN - Logan Plant - 7 / 10 Quote The Plucky Squire is a beautiful storybook adventure filled with brilliant wordplay-packed puzzles and clever dimension-hopping mechanics, but it drags on a bit too long after it's already used up all of its best ideas. Screen Rant - Leo Faierman - 3.5 / 5 Quote Still, the essential excitement of turning the page to discover what's next is so powerfully represented in The Plucky Squire, and the game retains this energy into its final chapters, even while otherwise lacking notable tension or danger. It’s an entertainingly busy book to play through, but it's a pity that many of The Plucky Squire’s best ideas are ultimately underexplored. Perhaps these are just being held back for any plucky printed new worlds to come. Wccftech - Amy Eastland - 7 / 10 Quote Although the game was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the actual gameplay elements of it, the story just didn't grab me. Initially, I was also deterred by the massively contrasting art styles and the finicky menus. Overall, the game is a pleasant experience, appropriate for gamers of all ages. If the story had some more flashy dramatics, it may have pulled me in earlier. The Plucky Squire is very evidently a product made with a lot of love, and you can tell that from the level of polish it has. ACG - Jeremy Penter - Buy Quote "A fantastic adventure and just downright beautiful" Console Creatures - Bobby Pashalidis - Recommended Quote The Plucky Squire is one of my favourite games this year. It's filled with charm, humour, and heart. All Possible Futures understands video games don't need to be complicated and bloated—the emphasis on puzzles, platforming, and combat is straightforward but done incredibly well. Rock, Paper, Shotgun - Ed Thorn - Unscored Quote An altogether fun action adventure with some charming, and occasionally brilliant, 2D to 3D platforming and puzzling. But don't expect to flex your own creativity, even if it gives you the tools to do so. Skill Up - Ralph Panebianco - Unscored Quote Video Review - Quote not available

Spawn_of_Apathy
Only able to play the first 3 chapters due work calls bleeding into my evening, but it has been charming so far. Controls feel tight. Gameplay has been very simple so far, but it is the presentation really shining through. not that there was ever a concern, but performance is great. 4K epic and I hit what seems to be a frame rate cap of 500fps. I would not be surprised if even the switch was 60fps.

Spawn_of_Apathy
1 hour ago, Firewithin said: i played about an hour or so last night and getting huge "this will probably end up being a sad game" lol I can see it seeming like it has huge kid dying of cancer energy. but something about the game feels like it also intended to be enjoyed by a young audience. Maybe it gets harder, but the game is pretty easy and you could opt into the “story” difficulty or turn on assists that make the game way easier. So I don’t see the game being too sad unless it is kind of a “bittersweet” kind of thing. I am optimistic about a happy ending and possibility of a sequel. Brian
It’s an absolutely beautiful game from the art to the presentation. The narrator’s voice and music/sound so far is on point as well. It really is impressive in motion. Unfortunately for it, it’s a video game and not a piece of media. The gameplay is very basic. Simple attack and dodge. Even when they tried to switch it up on the boss fight by copying a famous Nintendo game, it’s a simplified version. Now basic is ok if there is some challenge, but this game has none. When you start, you pick between adventure and story mode. I picked adventure and honestly can’t tell. You are given a ton of health. There are hearts everywhere once you get hit. The enemies don’t pack a punch and are basic as well. The one downside of the story book presentation is that it takes places on one or two pages that are pretty small. Combine small areas and no challenge, you kind of breeze through them quickly which makes it feel you are watching more than playing. Im still early, but I can’t see my complaints being remedied. TwinIon
I'm currently on the last chapter and while the Plucky Squire is undoubtably adorable and full of clever concepts, there just isn't enough gameplay to be as compelling as something like Astrobot. It very much is a playable storybook, but it's far too much storybook and not enough play. You're constantly being slowed down by dialog and slow page turning to largely empty pages with little to do on them. Actual adventuring gameplay is probably something like half the time in game, if that, which is a real drag for a game that shows such brief flashes of brilliance. Nifty gameplay concepts are littered throughout, including a fun "Baba Is You" type mechanic where you can move words between sentences to change the level, but they're so infrequently and insufficiently used. I think the game is just inescapably aimed at a very young demographic, so even though you have hints available at every puzzle, it seems like the developers are always worried about being too clever or putting to many puzzles in. The combat is both simple and largely beside the point. There isn't any challenge and there isn't much variety to it anyways. When there is variety, and the game changes art styles or works in different sources, it really does put a smile on my face. It's usually in those moments that they'll also switch up the gameplay for a brief moment, like the Punch Out style mini-boss at the very beginning. The game shines in those moments, but they're exceptionally brief. There is a ton of heart and a million beautiful little touches in The Plucky Squire, but ultimately it's too much of a children's storybook to feel essential to adult gamers. My Astrobot game disc will probably make it's way around to my friends, but I think the Plucky Squire is a recommendation I'll keep to my young nieces.
TwinIon
Finished the game last night and that last chapter actually left me wanting more. They finally started to combine multiple elements of the puzzle systems and there was a good amount of action with a reasonable mix of both 2D and 3D action. It makes me hope for a sequel that can really build on what they've got and push the gameplay farther.
