I do think there's a real issue in making an API too free to use to the point that spam bots abuse the system. However, there are definitely ways to minimize that kind of behavior without introducing costs that will drive away the positive uses of the API. I also seem to recall Elon wanting Twitter to be an "everything app" and being a champion of open access, not that there's any point in believing what he says anymore. Kal-El814
I don't think Elon appreciates how profitable scams are if he thinks $100 is a barrier to entry to anyone who's serious about them. chakoo
Simply the best.... Elon Musk Now Charging Brands $1,000/Month for Gold Checkmarks AMP.TMZ.COM Twitter seems poised to start charging major brands and companies a lot of cash to hold on to their gold checkmarks going forward. WSJ News Exclusive | Elon Musk’s Twitter Tries Super Bowl ‘Fire Sale’ to Win Back Advertisers WWW.WSJ.COM In email touting deal, company offers $250,000 in free ad space to advertisers that spend as much on the platform Quote Several brands are thinking about returning to the platform thanks in part to the Super Bowl, cheaper ad rates and the release of a new tool that allows advertisers to create a list of up to 1,000 keywords and avoid having their ads appear above or below tweets containing those words, ad buyers said. A beverage company and a financial-services firm recently began advertising again, according to people familiar with the matter, but ad buyers said they haven't seen a significant influx of brands returning to Twitter. b_m_b_m_b_m
I don’t know why any person would want to be sent to mars by him. He would lose interest in flight and leave you there. Ghost_MH
Mars is a one way trip. All this talk about going to Mars when what we really should be trying to figure out is how to set up a base on the moon. If we can't get a moon base going, how are we going to get a Mars base going? Mars was always looking to be a one way trip, but a one way trip to starvation is probably not how most envision the venture ending. 1

But Mars' resources are much easier to get to, including oxygen and water. In some ways, Mars is a more sustainable effort only because once you have people there, you (Earth) will have to continue to support the scientists (and eventually settlers) or else they'll die.
