Honestly though, he basically goes on a tangent and the point is: Billionaires can't get taxed because while their *assets* are worth billions, they don't actually have billions. You can't tax something they don't actually have. The thing is, they use those stock assets to get loans, and like... maybe that shouldn't be a thing? When the IRS comes knocking on your door looking for payment from your peasant salary, you can't just go "oh I don't have the money, the bank has it." The IRS doesn't give a shit. Not saying people should be taxed for unrealized gains for lots of reasons, but maybe people shouldn't be able to use  unrealized gains to do things like buy Twitter using bank loans.

... Turns out Trevor Noah is a lot better at explaining things than I am. Sorry.

Twitter is about to become 4 Chan.

Absolutely. No doubt he'll also remove warning labels about misinfo, too. We'll get extremely popular posts with tens of thousands of shares that have bald-faced, dangerous lies about whatever, and the twitter policy will be to ignore because people need to be free to be tricked.

Bet some banks are Getting nervous with this as the collateral

The loan covenant requires him to fund the difference if Tesla drops 40% and it's more than halfway there, so they are probably licking their lips at the amount of cheap equity they could grab.

The logic (i.e. excuse) for backing out is fairly hilarious. He sought to purchase Twitter to 1) make it a free speech platform (lol) for everyone and 2) kill all the bots. So now he's backing out because there are too many bots. Whether you kill 1 million bots or 30 million bots, the process is the same and the scaling might need a little work but that's such a lazy ass reason.

The dude was never that serious about this and now his networth being so ingrained in Tesla stocks and crypto has taken an immense beating, he cant afford this shit.

The value of the business is tightly connected to the ad business which is further connected to the number of real users.
