CastletonSnob Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 I know Apple already tried their hand at the console market in the 90s with the Apple Pippin, and it flopped, but do you think they would be more successful if they tried again? Keep in mind that Apple is a MUCH bigger company now than they were back when the Pippin came out, and they have MUCH more money they can put into making a console. Quote

Keyser_Soze Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 They have a console. It's apple TV and you play games on it and it even has a remote. Quote

Mr.Vic20 Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 I think most established platform holders are trying to move away from hardware, so I would doubt Apple would have much interest in offering "another box". 1 Quote
Paperclyp Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 Apple, Google, Amazon, what have you are not interested in the long term commitment it would take to become a major player in the hardware space. They throw shit at the wall in as many different arenas as they can and if they know for sure they have something big on their hands then they go whole hog. It’s not gonna happen for hardware. Maybe they someday make an actual play on a streaming service but the broad appeal isn’t there so you’re gonna get your half hearted stadia-like attempts that are doomed to fail. Quote
DarkStar189 Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 Just my opinion, but I feel like any die hard apple fan would just play the games off the app store on their tablet or phone. I don't think they made much of a splash either with Apple Arcade. Adding dedicated hardware into the mix just doesn't seem worth the investment. Quote
gamer.tv Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 I mean, Apple Arcade isn’t even that great sooooo Quote
ort Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 The already make the most popular gaming device on the planet. It would be nice if they acted like it, but apple is gonna apple. Quote
AlwaysDyingX Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 I'm waiting for the day Google makes a console. I'm sure it will be a huge hit. 1 1 Quote

TheLeon Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 Are you talking about a “real” console to compete with MS and Sony? I don’t see that happening. The best you’ll get is a souped-up Apple TV with a little more power specifically for gaming that will go underutilized. Quote
Stickey Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 It would be interesting if they released a VR/AR headset and never focus on gaming. Quote
