The Boys: Season 3 (Amazon Prime, 03 June 2022) - Official Trailer

Lol clrearly these guys have no idea who is behind this show. Seth Rogan and co are NOT shy about their politics and it was clearly obvious that Homelander is very Trumpian starting this episode. What's funny is I've heard a lot of Blue Hawk's talking points in right wing media. Hilarious that you have folks actually agreeing with him. He gave me a lot of George Zimmerman vibes personally.

I know the characters in this show and even the show itself are often not terribly smart, but what fucking sense does it make to come back with Soldier Boy, having just almost all been killed by a different, immortal supe that they clearly will not be able to actually control? Like thanks for depowering Homelander, back to Russia please. My guy has been outside his Pringles can for a day and a half and has killed 20 people. :p

Well that was filthy.

I actually thought it was relatively tame given all the hype (still filthy though, of course). It was all, as usual, so over the top and stylized that it didn't seem aggressive at all. Great episode though, seems like A-Train is done but finally did one good thing - nice to see the show finally hold him accountable too. If the alt right fans of the show had a problem last episode, seeing a black man drag a white racist asshole naked body and face across pavement at Flash level speeds is gonna push them away further, on top of Homelander almost getting owned and breaking down in the mirror scene like a cuck and a beta (in their minds, I thought it was a great character moment), which is great.

What could your expectations possibly have been? Write down everything that happened and read the list out loud to someone. It’s insane.

I don't mean that it wasn't "shocking" at all, I just don't think it's particularly wild compared to other episodes of this show. :p

Someone at work said in the books it's even wilder, and there was stuff they cut out for the show.

The books are more extreme than the show in many respects. It's Garth Ennis trying to outdo himself. He succeeds, but I don't know that the result is all that good.

I was expecting more weird shit to happen (not that it wasn’t weird) Kind of reminded me of the first time Hughie was brought to club in Season 1. Overall I actually think this was the best episode so far this year and it gets intense with each of our mini stories cumming together (see what I did there) in the end. Plus I enjoyed our little power fight in the end there too.

Now I wonder what was in Herogasm in the books that wasn't in the show.

I haven't read the herogasm arc in awhile but I think the show tops a lot of stuff that was in the book.

On another not, there was a comic in the late 80's early 90's that was kind of the prescurssor to The Boys called Marshall Law. The premise was superheroes were used to fight in Nam and when those heroes came back, they ran wild as crazed vets will do. Marshall Law was a government sanctioned "Hero Hunter" that tried to keep them in line. Basically a one man version of The Boys. His main enemy was also a superman analogue called Public Spirit. GREAT comic and one of the first for "Mature readers" comics I ever read. It got pretty violent and raunchy but nothing on the level of The Boys.

Any of you guys ever read it or hear of it? @Commissar SFLUFAN very political and subversive.

Can't say that I've ever heard of it, but I'm interested in checking it out!

Very well done and satirical... Like I said it was different from all of the other shit I was reading at the time. What's crazier is it was published by Marvel originally through their Epic imprint. If you do end up reading it would love to hear your thoughts. I haven't read it in years but I wonder if it holds up.

Quote

The Herogasm episode of The Boys has been discussed online since it was first announced Amazon would be adapting the comics into a show. As the name eloquently alludes to, there is a healthy dose of shocking material in The Boys: Herogasm. It's perhaps most known for the controversial scene in which Soldier Boy sleeps with Homelander, hoping that it will earn him a place in The Seven. However, that's far from the only event in The Boys: Herogasm that made the prospect of seeing it televised one of the first talking points among fans. Most of the miniseries expanded on shenanigans that occurred in the background of The Boys, or were referenced but took place off-panel. A notorious example is a four-way between Fantastico, a parody of the Fantastic Four. A-Train, who witnessed the event, said he thought it was a ménage à trois between the male members before he realized Invisi-Lass was in the middle. Some of the panels of the comic come close to being pornographic. Even with the standards of streaming television and the free-hand Amazon has given the showrunners, it would have been difficult to justify going as far as the source material.

For example, Herogasm featured a shocking scene involving Black Noir and Hughie Campbell. Hughie is discovered by Black Noir, who then sexually assaults Hughie with his thumb while calling him a "good soldier". This scene was barely accepted by many comic fans, and many felt it was too far even for The Boys. This, like many other non-consensual moments, didn't make it into the show. The Boys series has shown rape, but it's never played for cheap shock. It would be impossible to handle respectfully against the backdrop of Herogasm, where the viewer's attention will be on either Love Sausage's prehensile genitalia or The Deep's intimate moment with an octopus.

Herogasm was also controversial because of stories centered on 9/11. In the comic timeline, The Seven made a botched attempt to stop one of the hijacked planes. It crashes into the Brooklyn Bridge, leaving over 1,000 dead. The Boys infiltrate Herogasm to question a Secret Service agent assigned to Vice President Victor Neuman (Victoria Neuman's comic counterpart). They discover that Vought-American had "Vic The Veep" as a sleeper agent, using him to neutralize the President during the 9-11 attacks. With the President temporarily out of action, Neuman gave the order for NORAD to stand down. The Seven then attempted to neutralize the last plane approaching New York City, despite fighter jets previously being ready to shoot the plane down, a task which they failed. If The Seven had been successful and landed the plane safely, Vought-American could change laws prohibiting superhuman militarisation, allowing them to create super soldiers and make a fortune in defense contracts. When The Boys: Herogasm was released in 2009, less than a decade after 9/11, this arc caused quite a stir. Whether it still would if included in a 2022 TV series is unknown, as in the show's continuity the September 11th attacks never occurred.

I feel like they hyped this episode as being really wild and it kinda wasn't?

It may not have been as wild as we were expecting, but I suspect it was probably one of the best episodes of The Boys that has aired.

While I finally hopped aboard the Boys train, only in the back half of season 2 (started the show about a week ago or so.) Solid cast, well written, fun premise for sure. Definitely makes me miss & wish there was more Invincible incoming (hopefully we'll get some sort of update at SDCC in July!?) but yeah, not a bad show in the least.

Yeah, I'm back on board too. I watched Season 1 when it came out, and never watched season 2.

I'm starting over and finding season 1 more enjoyable than I remember it being. I remember it being hard to watch and intense... but it's really kinda just silly and over the top.

Great ep. I'm a little confused about Black Noir's cartoon hallucinations but whatever.

They are a recreation of what actually happened. During the attack at the camp in Nicaragua, Payback attacked Soldier Boy, he defended himself, disfigured Noir, but got knocked out, and given to the Russians. They then framed it as the Russians killed him, and took his body.

Well yeah I got all that. But I have no idea why he's hallucinating cartoons instead of just remembering like a normal person.
