I’ll write more as I get further in the game, but man, so far I’m loving this experience. Mind you I play WH (mostly Fantasy/TOW, but some 40k), and loved the original game.

 

But still, they really capture the current setting (because GW has long ago abandoned the satire this game was built on).

 

and the Rubicon moment I really wasn’t expecting. I went media blackout on this, and got to come in completely unspoiled. 
 

Only on the third mission, but I’m having so much fun.

If you’re happy with the first three missions I can confidently say you’ll love the last 3

So far I’m having a blast. I just flipped the Obelysks and entered the portal. I’m glad it’s been a success

I am sure you’ll be fine. But pickups like health and ammo can only be picked up by a single person and are not shared. So communicate with each other.

If on harder difficulty, the company Veteran (power sword and shield) is necessary. Having someone to block enemy fire is necessary. The Heavy Intercessor can block, but only when his Iron Halo is available to pop. 
 

My experience has been find the class you like and stick with it. Most of the classes are useless until you level them up. The special co-op missions were brutal on the second highest difficulty, we had to kick it down to normal until we got to about level 7.

I hope the next game brings Khorne or Nurgle. Death Guard would be fantastic. I really want to fight a Great Unclean One and his loveable little nurglings who just want a hug!
 

I also hope we see Roboute Guilliman. Hopefully fighting Mortarian.

No. Operations is where you choose a class. You’ll just be primaris Intercessors for the campaign.

Ah okay. But I guess you can kind of customize your stuff by choosing different weapons in the missions, etc.

 

Wait, what happens if it's me and two friends playing the campaign, do we each have different ults? Or we're all the same with abilities, etc?

 

Edit - did some research, looks like your co-op buddies just take the place of the other side characters and get their abilities, etc.

correct. Also each time you play whoever isn’t the host will need to change their loadout if they switched their guns or melee weapon.

I laughed my ass off when I thought I was gonna get to fight the huge bird but then the Dreadnought just threw a fucking statue at him and killed him 😂😂😂😂

Yeah it’s pretty fun. As folks have observed, it’s got some throwback vibes in that it feels a lot like a 360 / PS3 era TPS. In that spirit it has online co-op and competitive multiplayer.

I would really like more story on Chairon. One of the first primaris marines Caul created. Around for the battle of Cailth, taken and turned into a space marine and put in stasis until he could perfect the Rubicon surgery. 10000 years old, saw the birth of the Thousand Sons as Heretic Astartes. Be cool to get an expansion about him.

I have a level 15 Devastator (Heavy) in full Imperial Fists armor and a level 11 Tactical Marine in full Black Templars gear. I love the operations so much, especially now on the second highest difficulty.

Did a few operations on Saturday night with two friends, and had fun. I have a few gripes with the game (biggest is you can't control FOV, and it's locked to like <60 degrees, and the dev is copping out saying it can't be increased for "quality" issues), but overall it's a fun time. 

 

EDIT - Other major issue is that the cosmetic/armour system has a really, really terrible UI that is not intuitive at all. Same with all the different currencies and what they do and how you can use them.

Lol yeah figuring out the cosmetics and then the gun upgrades took me a hot minute. 
 

That being said I’m loving the operations way more than I thought I would. I must have played the first one 15+ times at this point and I’m still never bored by it. I think the last time I had this much fun doing the same “runs” over and over was Diablo 2(and Anthem 👀)

Same. Especially the Tyranid Ops. It’s so much fun mowing down dozens of Gaunts at a time. It’s incredibly satisfying to watch them explode in a mess of blood and guts, and to watch your armour get increasingly bloodied until you roll in water lol

This is quite the honest assessment from the game's director:

Saber Interactive's Dmitriy Grigorenko admits to falling into the "same trap" that tripped up the first Space Marine game

In Space Marine 2, there is no greater joy than throwing yourself head-first into a seething mass of Tyranids. When you're fighting in melee range, the game does an incredible job at making you feel like you're surviving through sheer skill and power. Whether it's barely breaking your stride to catch a leaping Hormagaunt by the tail and slamming them into paste, or parrying a Tyranid Warrior's swords until an opening lets you plunge your own revving Chainsword into its midriff, there's a fluidity to combat unlike anything I've played before. It's a flow that's complemented by the fact there aren't too many opportunities to use your guns – a quick gap in might let you thin out the crowd with a spray of Bolter rounds, or take out some distant snipers, but it's typically more effective to fight up-close.

 

Unfortunately, when Space Marine 2 moves away from Tyranids in lieu of Chaos in the final act, this combat loses some of its appeal. Chaos takes a quality over quantity approach, reducing the amount of horde fodder in lieu of fielding elite units like Scarab Occult Terminators and Chaos Space Marines. These units tend to have more longer-ranged weapons, which means the balance of fighting skews toward having to use guns more.

 

It's a shame, because by leaning into guns, Space Marine 2 loses a lot of the fluidity that makes fighting Tyranids so fun – and when I raise this with game director Dmitriy Grigorenko, I'm surprised to hear he feels the same way.

 

"Yeah, that's actually a valid criticism – I have exactly the same thoughts," says Grigorenko. "You know, at some point you cannot stop the train, you cannot change things. Eventually we saw that this problem was going to happen. And it's funny, because when we started the project, and I was talking to our designers, saying, 'Okay, so the first game is absolutely amazing when you fight Orcs, but when Chaos appears [laughing] it's not fun anymore. Let's not repeat their mistakes. Let's not do this.' And we kind of fell in the same trap. Even though we knew this was going to happen, we fell into this trap."

 

"But, yeah, I mean, in some cases, like I said, you cannot change things before it's too late," he continues. "We tried to fix this by introducing a lot of unique setpieces that break the repetitiveness, I would say, but overall, you don't know until you make this stuff. This may sound obvious, but it's not very obvious when you make stuff – killing Tyranids is fun because there's blood. You cannot fight this. I mean, no matter what you do, killing robots, killing Thousand Sons, you know, the sand, the ash, is not as good as blood. This is why killing zombies is fun, because they have blood. And while we tried to do our best, I don't think we did a good job in the end, but maybe next time."

I actually wish there was more hordes of Tzangors and less, but far stronger Rubric Marines. The game really shines when there are hordes of monsters coming. So far I’ve killed like 15000 enemies total :Sherman: Based off Trophy percentages anyway.
