Shigeru Miyamoto, 65, said Nintendo Co. is exploring different ways of charging people for games, shunning the free-to-play model that’s become a moneymaker in the $140 billion gaming sector. Instead, he called on his peers to deliver titles at fixed prices without over-charging players, which will create more sustainable businesses over the long term. “We’re lucky to have such a giant market, so our thinking is, if we can deliver games at reasonable prices to as many people as possible, we will see big profits,” Miyamoto said at the Computer Entertainment Developers Conference (CEDEC) on Wednesday in Yokohama, Japan. Most other developers are lucky to keep their games out of the bargain bins six months later. Also, Nintendo is probably one of the least consumer-friendly companies out there, so this all just comes off as the personal feelings of Miyamoto and not the true intentions of the company itself. While the developers are like no kiding we are cashing in now and make a new game later. Also I don't think Miyamoto likes not being the most profitable publisher on their console. Yet at the same time he's urging other publishers to embrace subscription models, which is a weird coincidence since Nintendo is set to launch their subscription model next month.
