I thought a bunch of people left NeoGaf to start resetera yet the post on the forum says one dude is the sole proprietor. Some people gonna feel burned af when they see this news.

Originally there were several "founders" as a result of the NeoGAF exodus, but their stakes in the site's ownership LLC were all eventually bought out by the guy who just sold.

I just hope it deeply upsets as many of its permanently-outraged and delusional members as possible.

I spoke with a tech/media M&A banker about ResetERA's $4.55 million valuation and he claims that given the 80% EBITDA margin, the 6.5x revenue multiple is LUDICROUSLY small.

He can only conclude that this was a case of (a) the site owner wanting to cash out ASAP and (b) stagnating-to-declining growth prospects.

I mean, on the one hand a pile of money, on the other, endless complaints and expectations. Hard call.

The owner BARELY engaged with the site from what I gather and let the unpaid mod team handle all the dirty work.

It really was just a case that he could see the declining user engagement and ad revenue writing on the wall and decided to get out while the getting was good!

The M&A guy says that the valuation should've been at least 10x revenue  or $7,000,000.

The owner REALLY wanted to cash out hard.

He must have some dirty secrets. Gotta get out before he got Gruden'd

They agreed to change my account email to a gmail account, easily worth $4.5M.
