So, I beat a boss today. It could be the 3rd, 4th, or 5th boss away from the final boss but you don't have to fight it. I recorded almost every attempt and I am up loading it YouTube. It is almost an hour long with all the attempts. It is major spoilers so I will put in in a spoiler box.

So, here is the boss video. The final fight is at 45:25. The overall video quality took a major hit when uploading it to YT.

Spoiler

So, this boss is something like a secret boss, but not really. Just you may not fine it in a normal play-thru. I had some shit to say the other day about the fight, but I forgot what I was going to talk about. Gonna put the video in a second spoiler box because you will be instantly spoiled as soon as you click on it.

Haven't been able to play nearly as much as the first few days lately but I'm getting near the end-game I believe. Game is still fucking good and the combat really clicked. It feels great to return to the castle and essentially fight regular dudes that were mini-bosses earlier on and crushing them.

Sekiro PC mod adds ‘easy mode,’ more graphical options (Polygon)

A player-created mod for the PC version of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice adds an impressive variety of graphical options to the game, and even includes settings that allow you to craft your own version of an “easy mode”.

Nexus Mods link

A small utility to remove frame rate limit, add custom resolutions with 21/9 widescreen support, change FOV, borderless window mode, display and log stats (OBS) and various game modifications. Patches game's memory, does not modify any game files, works with every game version, should work with all future updates.

So, I beat the game. The final boss was hard, but not too hard I felt. The fire shield attack really saved my skin at one point and it helps overall. Not that the boss is fire related, just that the fire attack you can do with the shield really helped. Part of me wants to give it an 8/10 and another part wants to say 9/10.  I still have a lot of issues with the game, but the last few bosses are really good. Like, the later portion of the game really increased the score as I was inclined to give the game a 7/10 in the earlier portions. A reason I started to like the game more was because I just got better. As I got better I enjoyed the game more. Pretty standard, but it wasn't like that with Dark Souls. I liked DS from the start and liked it even more as I got better.

Now, I still don't want another Sekiro. While I liked the game sometimes the game felt very limited in what you could do, and I don't want to go thru a new game with this combat system because of that. However, there are a few ways to change my opinion on that. One is to make the next game a direct sequel with the same characters, but I don't know if that is really possible. I mean it is, but that also means something else that people might not be happy about. Another is to really expand upon the Shinobi Prosthetic and tools. I feel like it is the biggest waste of potential in the game. I'd really like it  to become more like Bloodborne's trick weapons. As they are now, they are very much like combat items in Dark Souls, but better. It is useful as it is now, but just lackluster. The same can be said about the Ninjutsu and Combat Arts. Neither of those should use emblems as well, and just changing that would increase their usefulness. All Combat Arts should just be free, and Ninjutsu should either have charges like your gourd or emblem knife, or a cooldown period of some sort.

Oh, and It is such a shame this game has no PvP as the Shinobi Prosthetic and Tools would be great for PvP. And The grapple hook needs more freedom or combat usage. Like, IMO, it is just a long jump as it is now. It is neat but nothing special.

About the bosses in general, they aren't really that epic or grand and the same applies to the music. I never forget some of the amazing bosses and scores in DS and BB. Like fucking Ludwig and O&S. That shit was fucking amazing, especially Ludwig. Can't really say the same for Sekiro. The final bosses were really fun, but except for one of the final few bosses, they are all just a dude with a sword. I mean, it has to be that way with the game's theme, but I still want something more epic.

And the world you traverse thru is only OK. There are some pretty looking areas, especially the final area, but Japan is kind of a boring setting for me. Included in the world are the standard enemies and elite enemies. Elite enemies are fine, but the normal enemies are lame as once again, you are just fighting dudes with swords, but that issue can't really be solved because of the combat system. And even making them harder isn't an option. Like, normal enemies die really fucking easy, but if they didn't the game would just be a chore because of the combat system. I rather the enemies be boring than a chore.

With that said, BB > DS ≥ Sekiro > DeS > DS3 >>>>>>>>>>> dog shit >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> DS2

I admit the late game bosses are making me disinterested in the game. The reliance on perfection and near-OHKO attacks is so grating at this point that I've kind of stopped caring, I've seen most of it anyway.

I really think it's a great game but has some heavy balancing flaws overall. I really didn't like how easy and few enemies there can be in an area between crushing boss fights. It feels odd and sometimes barren, as in not very engaging.

I just beat Owl yesterday I think and played some more and felt what I said about it afterwards. I'm not stuck really, just exhausted and disinterested instead of feeling satisfied after hard bosses.

Gonna take a week break or so to see if I'll finish the game.

Just beat the owl and kind of did it in a cheap way...but glad I finally got past him.

Spoiler

Didn't realize you could use mortal blade even though you are out of spirit and it does dmg even when the enemy blocks.  Spammed it every chance I had and beat the owl that way lol.

It is really disappointing that there is no stand out boss music track. None of them are really bad, which can't be said about some of the Soulsborne tracks, but none good enough to remember. IMO, the best piece isn't even on one of the better bosses. Like, that boss is a pretty great spectacle and is really cool, but by no means is it a traditional boss fight. I actually blame the Japanese theme for the weaker OST.

Some standout pieces from the Soulsborne games

Picked this up again today... beat Lady Butterfly and the Horse Dude. Fighting the Blazing Bull next. Pretty sure I'll beat him tonight next time I play.

Best strategy is run like a fucking lunatic the entire time. It's like they decided to pound in your head that you don't have a stamina bar this time and can actually do that.

Use your firecrackers that you used on the horse guy and it startles the bull and you can slash away, pretty easy.

Speaking of fire crackers, what does the charged-up version actually really do compared to the normal one? I never really notice. The stun doesn't seem longer? Does it to posture damage?

I kind of had the same question lol.  I think from the description, it is a wider AOE.

I haven't noticed much from an upgraded shuriken either although the description makes it sound like it'll stick on them and keep spinning.  It's to a point I haven't even upgraded any other tools cause I rarely use it anyway.  It really seems like firecrackers are the best tool in the game.

Kind of brings up a good topic of which tools are actually useful.  I used the axe at first quite a bit to break posture dmg, but now that I have samurai down slash double move, I do that more often as it doesn't cost spirit.  The sabimaru seems to be a quick easy way to take out middle tier enemies.

Found this vid on youtube.

Firecrackers? I dont have any firecrackers.  I beat the Horse guy straight up.

Baller!

Yes I got to the horse guy and got my ass kicked, I looked at a wiki or guide or something and it said to use the firecracker prosthetic, and I looked at where to get it.

I could tell you if you want. I guess I'll leave it in a spoiler :p

Spoiler

Back where you fight the first General mini boss, up on a mountain is a dude in a tent, "a mob merchant" you have to buy  Robert's Firecracker off him and then take it to the sculptor

You will probably want it for the bull, but then again maybe not!

They stun dogs too!

I was the same way.  I didn't know where to get firecrackers until I faced the bull and a guide said to use it.

For dogs, I just go crazy spamming whirlwind slash lol

Well, yeah. It is vague.

Spoiler

Just the black mortal blade can "open gate." So it magically opens a gate to the underworld where dead people are, and Genny Churro somehow opens the gate to the underworld by sacrificing himself, and then resurrects the recently deceased Isshin.  Not really sure why Isshin is at peak strength, but yeah. Genny also drank that rejuvenating water so he had some immortal shit going on.

And also

At least I think that is how it works
