Activision-Blizzard Case Update: Activision's internal investigation pats itself on the back for doing a pretty good job

You're absolutely correct in that there is really no realistic solution.

Their 2020 revenue was > $8B. Let's say 100 employees successfully sue them for $1M each. Would even something like that (which to be clear is not ever going to happen) influence their behavior? It seems unlikely.

Prison time for all the top execs! (On top of every single person directly responsible.)

Only actual direct and tangible punishment for this kind of shit will produce any lasting change. But we can't be throwing our rich people into prison! That's for blacks and trailer trash!

Correct. I don't understand how this kind of harassment isn't illegal. How is sharing nudes against someone's will not run aground California revenge porn laws?

That IS illegal. Someone is very likely getting prison time for this, because those laws are taken extremely seriously here.

The execs, though, escape without incident. Now, maybe I'm just an idealistic guy, but if you're responsible enough to claim billions of dollars for what a company does, you should at least be responsible enough to risk some prison time. What's life without a little excitement.

God, can you imagine how fast this sexual harassment shit would just fucking poof out of existence from these companies if the top brass had any liability at all? They'd be patrolling the fucking halls with armed guards ready to escort anyone even looking at another employee wrong out of the building. HR's interests would all of a sudden actually align with victims AND the company!

According to Uppercutcrit.com, Activision leadership held a dissatisfying meeting with employees, calling Fran Townsend's poorly received message an "apology" and stating the corporate headquarters intent to fight against the California lawsuit.

No. This isn't exclusive to the gaming industry. Where there are men in power, there will be men use abuse it. Of course there will be women who abuse their power, but generally is it men when it comes to the sexual misconduct or whatever you want to call it.

It's easily fixable, but nobody that can enact the change is willing to. The gaming press could choose to not cover games by these companies. That would do it. Governments could also hold the execs at these companies responsible fire the mistreatment and harassment of they're employees, but they're unwilling to hold these wealthy men to account. Gamers could also just boycott these games, but 90% of gamers don't know anything about this and 9% of those that do well forget about this a few weeks from now.

The biggest difference between the gaming industry and others are that "gamers" are more than willing to carry water for these assholes.

Of course, but I feel like this time there is much less of this. Maybe not for the right reasons, but WoW and Blizzard IPs in general have been bad in general lately so gamers are actually looking for more reasons to hate Blizzard. Then there was the whole Hong Kong thing, and the "do you not have phones". The Burning Crusade Classic is pay to win and has many people disappointed in Blizzard. On top of that many top WoW streamers on twitch have condemned the company. I mean, for a lot of them WoW is their job and they can't just quit, but it is better than them defending the company.

That's disgusting. The look of disappointment and defeat on her face is heartbreaking. The fact that the crowd cheered them on and booed her is enraging. I wish she had been able to say, "could you maybe not laugh in my face and make jokes about what I, and many others feel is a valid complaint, and is turning away a lot of female players from your games because the women characters are overly sexualized, and stop being a bunch of assholes to someone who tries to address this issue to you? Thanks", or if not that, more succinctly, "Fuck you".

Fuck all these guys. Fuck Activision Blizzard.

Did @Commissar SFLUFAN give a fuck you to this guy too?

I watched the Jimquisition episode about Activision-Blizzard. Just burn the gaming industry to the ground, like people used to burn houses to get rid of the plague. I really don't give a shit anymore.

And this isn't even about "cancel culture" or "being woke". This is about basic goddamn human decency.

You should watch the other videos they've put out over the past months about Ubisoft, etc. They seem to be right (in the current one) everyone seems to have turned a blind eye.

Online fandom can be incredibly toxic regardless of industry or space, though gaming seems particularly bad in this regard. There are legions of young people who treat their sexuality / gender identity as a kind of fandom online, and it’s both wild and disappointing to see.

Honestly what can even be done here? Short of sacking the c suite and board of directors, which isn't going to happen, how can anyone expect things to change?

Good old fashioned lynching. We wasted all those years doing it primarily to those who didn't deserve it, let's have some fun with those who do!
