I'll be honest I didn't really care for the addition of a 'helper' in GoW either. Son or not. Diminished my enjoyment of the game by trying to humanize Kratos past what I had already accepted about him. A man like that with a past like his.. I don't need helpy escort mission boy thrown in the mix to take the gameplay to the next level.

In A Plague Tale, you're both the mostly helpless ones. The game is more about combat avoidance than anything else. That's why my first hope for the sequel is that the lead girl doesn't get too many close combat options. She shouldn't be able to shake off adults. Kill someone with a well timed rock to the face? Sure, but she should be pretty much dead the moment any of the adults get their hands on her.

Amusingly, I'm also not huge on slow paced stealth games, but it just works in this instance. Rather than feeling like Solid Snake, it's very much more of a horror sneaking around monsters. Monsters in this case being rats and the French.

It’s not really an action game anyway so it’s different. To me it plays a lot like a puzzle platformer like Limbo/prince of persia/little nightmares/oddworld/flashback that sorta thing but 3D.

Yeah, that's about right. I always considered it a sort of survival horror puzzle.

Reviews in 2 hours! Hoping for a solid mid 80s but will obviously be playing no matter what.

My morning lol’s was reading resetera and since the game appears to be 30fps on console, seeing people try to downplay the graphics. Which works okay for that Batman game sure, but not so much when a game looks this impressive from a team of 70! Not to mention up to fucking 300,000 rats on screen instead of 5,000 last entry.

A Plague Tale: Requiem deserves your time in every sense of the word and it is a story that will live on in my mind for years to come. The powerful, emotional heartaches that you will no doubt experience by the incredible cast of characters continue to impress after the credits roll.

EGM - 5 / 5

Siblings Amicia and Hugo went to hell and back in A Plague Tale: Innocence in their quest to survive an inquisition, endless hordes of rats, and the humans that looked to take advantage of the young boy's curse. And now, in A Plague Tale: Requiem, they must pay the devil his due. This is the tale of the duo wanting to control their own fate as the fragile peace they had found falls apart, and the harsh lesson that their choices have consequences. As a game, Requiem is a bigger, better, and more ambitious adventure over its predecessor, but as a story, and a look into the lives of the characters that inhabit it, it's so much more.

A masterclass in narrative games design, A Plague Tale: Requiem is one of the most atmospheric and beautiful games you could ever wish to play. Amicia and Hugo's journey is powerful, evocative and downright disturbing and somehow manages to be greater than the original. Asobo Studio has crafted satisfying streamlined rat, light and stealth gameplay that perfectly serves the story it's trying to tell and only adds to the narrative intensity. A Game Of The Year contender for certain.

A new gem has appeared in the next-gen. Requiem is bigger and better than Innocence, even with a more mature narrative. And probably has the most realistic graphics ever seen on a console. A 2022 essential.

A Plague Tale Requiem is one of the must play games of 2022 on the Xbox Series X and if you enjoyed the original or looking for something different yet totally enjoyable, this next-gen experience from Asobo Studio will keep you invested from start to finish.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is one the best and most powerful narative focused video games in years that improves on all aspects of its predecessor. This is without a doubt a must play for fans of deep story-telling in video games as it hits all the right emotional notes in the best possible way.

GameSpace - 9.5 / 10

A Plague Tale: Requiem impressed with the time I was able to spend with her. It's clear that Asobo is working on fixing the biggest flaws in 2019's A Plague Tale: Innocence. This improved the quality of movement and resource management, expanded Amicia and Hugo's skill sets, and expanded the levels to encourage more creative interaction with your surroundings.

GamingTrend - 95 / 100

Quote

A Plague Tale: Requiem is one of the most emotionally satisfying games I have ever played. I was stunned by the emotionally charged, beautifully presented, and impeccably acted story which is brought to life by incredible technical feats which showcase the power of the PS5. Time and again I was surprised by the sheer bleakness that the story was brave enough to dive into and the thrill of watching hope attempt - and often fail - to overcome those seemingly insurmountable odds. Requiem is a story which both uplifts and decimates your emotions at the same time; a story about characters that feel real and that you grow to care and root for. By the end you too will be shouting, "I am Amicia de Rune and I kneel to no one."

PSX Brasil - Portuguese - 95 / 100

Quote

A Plague Tale: Requiem is a fantastic game. The graphics are beautiful, the soundtrack is amazing, the gameplay is very good and the story is immersive and impactful. There are a few minor technical problems – which are far from ruining the experience – and, because it is a linear and plot-focused game, there's not much to do once you've finished the campaign.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is the consecration of Asobo Studio. The game is able to offer us an experience that improves everything to its predecessor, putting at our disposal a series of playable, graphic and design improvements that will keep us hooked for hours. In addition, the relationship between Amicia and Hugo perfectly represents the fraternal bond, presenting a story that has its own soul.

A Plague Tale: Requiem doesn’t reinvent what made the first game great. Instead, it builds on what worked and makes everything better. From graphics and sound to combat, A Plague Tale: Requiem adds a layer of depth a polish we didn’t even realize was missing the first time around. A lot of gamers missed A Plague Tale: Innocence, but everyone should play this altogether amazing sequel.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is the example of how a game must surpass in all aspects the previous one: a much more intense and powerful plot, even more lively characters and a gameplay not only polished, but perfected and evolved. This is already an IP that aims to have a very good future.

A Plague Tale: Requiem brings back everything to love about the first game and builds an even more heartrending tale of the things people will do for love.

ElderPlayers - Arabic - 9 / 10

A Plague Tale Requiem successfully completes the masterful storytelling of its predecessor and offers an impressive upgrade, the issue that prevented it from getting the full mark was that the stage design lagged behind the massive improvement of its other aspects. But with all of that its luster is not lost  and it's an unmissable experience!

Asobo Studios have delivered a runaway hit with A Plague Tale: Requiem. This is the very best kind of sequel: one that builds upon everything that came before and pays homage to its predecessor, while still carving its own path. Breathtaking.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is an incredible action-adventure title. This much-anticipated sequel arrives on Next Gen consoles, PC, and Switch Digital only. However, gamers on these machines will adore the brutal and sombre journey they'll experience. It retains many much-loved mechanics but evolves miles beyond my wildest expectations. Accordingly, this latest instalment blew my mind, and I can't stop raving about it.

PlayStation Universe - 9 / 10

Quote

A Plague Tale Innocence set the beautifully grim tone, and A Plague Tale Requiem goes beyond it and tells a captivating tale of hope and misery that builds on the original's promise in almost every way. It may struggle to match its ambition in places, but Requiem is nothing short of a remarkable achievement.

A Plague Tale: Innocence offered already a unique experience and showed great potential, which the developers fully utilized in Requiem. The basic game system hasn't changed much since then, but now you'll be more immersed in the story of the De Rune siblings and their loved ones, which stretched nicely for two dozen hours.

I’m really glad that A Plague Tale: Requiem managed to overcome the burden of sequelitis and shine as a worthy successor to the fantastic Innocence. Sure, its predecessor was a bit more impactful due to it just dropping from out of nowhere, but Requiem manages to exist alongside it by amping up the tension and psychological aspects of its story.

A Plague Tale: Requiem improves in just the right places. The graphics have been improved, the gameplay and mechanics are better implemented, and everything is a bit bigger and more spacious, but without losing the focus. The focus is still on the immersive and exciting narrative, the characters and their conversations. Only rough technical issues like screen tearing and stutters spoil the picture from time to time.

Gaming Nexus - 8.8 / 10

Sequels are difficult to get right, but Asobo Studio has created a wonderful follow up to Amicia and Hugo's journey. A Plague Tale: Requiem effortlessly expands on the premise of the original by fleshing out a more in-depth gameplay experience to cater to various playstyle while maintaining an engaging narrative filled with colorful yet unpredictable characters. The game is unfortunately only held back by performance issues and icky bugs.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is just the game we were hopping for. We wished that Asobo Studio took more risks when designing the gameplay, but the overall result is pretty good.

Checkpoint Gaming - 8.5 / 10

Quote

A Plague Tale: Requiem is both a worthy sequel to a sleeper hit, and a brilliant game on its own. Asobo Studio have shown their knack for using believable human relationships as the basis for an unrealistic supernatural horror story. The next chapter in Amicia and Hugo's story deserves to be seen, if anything because the narrative is both unique and powerful. Despite the increasing brutality of this world and minor mechanical issues, you'll be in safe hands with this game, unlike our young heroes.

Paste Magazine - 8.5 / 10

Everything in Requiem is bigger, bolder, and better than Innocence was. There's more variety in which players can approach situations and it plays and looks great. It offers a fantastic narrative with bigger stakes and conflicts, as well as a bigger cast of characters and complementary tools. And it only leaves you wanting more, which is good, because by the end of the game, you'll wonder where A Plague Tale goes from here. After the events of Requiem, the possibilities seem abundant.

This long awaited follow up to Asobo Studio's cult hit doesn't come without grievances, but A Plague Tale: Requiem a rock-solid adventure that's grim and gorgeous in equal measure. A Plague Tale: Requiem is a worthy sequel. It offers what Innocence offered and more. It is perhaps guilty of being too continuous, especially in its first half, but in the second half it totally takes off. Recommended for lovers of stealth and/or its first installment.

Impressive efforts with a few noticeable problems holding them back. Won't astound everyone, but is worth your time and cash.

Game Informer - 8 / 10

At times, it feels too long and oddly sadistic in its focus on inflicting fakeouts, pain, and suffering on the de Runes. Other times, I admired Asobo’s command of this series, its rat-infested stealth mechanics, and its grandiose storytelling. Fortunately, the latter edges out the former, and Requiem feels like much more than just a follow-up.

GamesHub - 4 / 5

Quote

A Plague Tale: Requiem has a strong identity and a good degree of allowance for player creativity and expression. Moving through its stunning world and spending time with its characters is gratifying – even if many of its setpieces are terrifying or grim, even if its inhabitants are a bit too chatty, and even if there are far, far too many rats. The hope you find on the other side is usually worth the struggle.

The performances of the two siblings and the story itself are compelling enough to make up for the most glaring flaws, but the padded runtime hurts the pacing. At its worst, the game feels boring. Yet the shining moments of A Plague Tale: Requiem push through its problems, leaving a satisfying sequel, rats and all.

PCGamesN - 8 / 10

A Plague Tale Requiem is much the same as Innocence in terms of gameplay, but its character development and blood-soaked universe make it an absolute pleasure to play.

Push Square - 8 / 10

Quote

At its best, A Plague Tale: Requiem is one of the greatest narrative-focused experiences on PS5 to date. Technical limitations get in the way some of the time, but with improved stealth and combat mechanics, this is a really well-rounded game that excels at nearly everything it does. Innocence demonstrated Asobo Studio's potential in bursts; Requiem has absolutely realised it.

Stevivor - 8 / 10

Quote

Requiem has refined and improved the formula that made the first game so intriguing. Amicia and Hugo are not the timid children they were at the start of their journey, and while the goal used to be just survival, things have changed: it’s now about making sure that the people they want to be will survive this new hardship.

TechRaptor - 8 / 10

Quote

Questionable story beats and tedious combat arenas aside, A Plague Tale: Requiem polishes and refines its stealth action gameplay while keeping its focus on its core cast of characters

The Independent - 8 / 10

Quote

Both in scale and execution, A Plague Tale Requiem is an ambitious follow-up to Innocence that retools its core puzzle-and-stealth gameplay for a broader and more satisfying historical narrative adventure with fantasy elements.

While puzzles are immediately intuitive and its action elements are much more rewarding, they rarely stretch the player’s brain enough to give much pause, making for a breezy, yet memorable adventure.

TrueAchievements - 8 / 10

Quote

A Plague Tale: Requiem is a fantastic stealth game with an intriguing story (once it finally gets going) that Xbox Game Pass subscribers and fans of the original really shouldn't miss. Requiem's gorgeous, yet bleak and harrowing world is a joy to explore, and thanks to expanded combat and additional options that allow you to approach stealth sections in whatever way you see fit, the gameplay really is a step up over Innocence. A few performance issues, some slightly underbaked characters, and a constantly whispering Amicia do detract from the experience, but overall, Asobo has created a fantastic sequel here that demands a playthrough.

Except for the stuttering and crashes endured through the review period, A Plague Tale: Requiem is a very well done game. The story remains as engaging as ever, with a whole cast of compelling characters. The myriad of mechanics keeps things exciting, and the pacing makes you feel like you had the right amount of it at the right times. The overall presentation is stunning to the point where it is already a looker, even before ray tracing comes into the picture. If the stability fixes come in for the title, you're looking at a game that'll easily make a "Best Of" list for 2022.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is a mighty fine follow up to Innocence, and will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. In one of The Darkest and the most drama roller coaster Stories ever, A Plague Tale Requiem manages to present a fantastic and a brutal story that will cause you real pain but destroys all of this with a frustrating Level design and gameplay.

Gamer's Palace - German - 75 / 100

Quote

Storywise, A Plague Tale: Requiem is a perfect sequel with a lot of characters to like or dislike. This journey with Amicia and Hugo is a lot bigger as well. The gameplay cannot hold up though. There are many AI issues and also some technical issues on PS5 which is unfortunate as I remember the predecessor as a really polished game.

AusGamers - 7 / 10

Quote

Unfortunately not much has changed where that sentiment is concerned. And if we’re looking solely at the studio’s technical and artistic strengths, it doesn’t need to prove this aspect of its game anymore, but looking at things purely from a gameplay perspective, Asobo might need to come out of the Dark Ages.

Dexerto - 7 / 10

Quote

Hugo and Amicia's story remains just as compelling as it was in Innocence, but A Plague Tale: Requiem swings for the fences by offering more of almost everything that made its predecessor great. Some curious design choices dampen its impact a little, but overall, it's a great return for a duo that are fast becoming some of our favorites.

Digital Trends - 3.5 / 5

Quote

A Plague Tale: Requiem improves on its predecessor with gorgeous visuals and more varied gameplay, but it struggles to balance its increased action and morally nuanced storytelling.

GameSpew - 7 / 10

Quote

A Plague Tale: Requiem outdoes its predecessor in many ways. Its story, for example, manages to be even more engaging and touching, while numerous gameplay enhancements make it a deeper, more varied affair. It’s just a shame that its first quarter isn’t better paced, relying too much on you manipulating rats with light, and that its combat sections just aren’t fun at all. Add in a myriad of performance issues and bugs, and you have a game that somewhat squanders its phenomenal potential, but is still very much worth playing.

GameSpot - 7 / 10

Quote

A Plague Tale: Requiem eventually expands in scope and improves upon its predecessor's stealth action, but the heartrending story of two siblings battling against the odds is where it truly excels.

GameWatcher - 7 / 10

Quote

A Plague Tale: Requiem's trump card is the variety of gameplay sequences between which it alternates. At its best, it spices up the original's stealth action-adventure formula with new ways of eliminating foes or holding rats at bay. At its worst, it has you slogging through tedious or frustrating stealth sections.

Metro GameCentral - 7 / 10

Asobo Studio has done well to continue the story of Amicia and her brother Hugo in A Plague Tale: Requiem. The narrative excels at exploring Amicia’s internal strife balanced against the need to protect and help her brother. Unfortunately, while the puzzles, lighting, and rat swarming systems are neat, they are weighed down by the tedious stealth sections and clunky controls. Those who enjoyed the first game will likely want to see it through to the end, but those who are new may find the experience lacking.

XboxEra - 7 / 10

Quote

the game has a lot of good things going for it.  The narrative, puzzles, combat and new game mechanics make for an interesting and worthwhile experience but the extended game length is unnecessary and makes it feel like the story is being padded out to breaking point.

A Plague Tale: Requiem has seemed to me an exercise as remarkable visually as irregular mechanically and narratively. A competent videogame that will please those who enjoyed the first one, but that repeats, and I would even say that it intensifies, some of the mistakes that were pointed out to the original.

TheGamer - 2.5 / 5

Quote

A Plague Tale: Requiem is relentless in its depiction of misery. It imparts the troubling message that no matter how hard we try, we can’t change the future, and trying to do so only invites more pain and suffering than willingly submitting to our eventual demise. A series about two children losing their innocence and being corrupted by the evils of the world is one I welcome, but not when it teaches us to give up instead of fighting for a future all our own. The world may seem hopeless right now, but if we give in to the despair we’re choosing doom, and I’d rather go down slinging.

VGC - 2 / 5

Quote

A Plague Tale: Requiem is a sometimes compelling adventure weighed down by poor technical performance, and simple, frustrating and repetitive gameplay. While the stealth action can be enjoyable, and the puzzle elements of using the impressive hordes of rats to your advantage can be engaging, it’s a game that introduces compelling ideas but never really capitalizes on any of them. Pair that with some dodgy AI and it’s a game that’s at its best when the characters are simply walking through the world, talking to each other.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is an absolute spectacle of a game. And it’s in almost every way a superior game to Innocence. It can be downright disgusting at times, but in the best of ways. Seeing the loving relationship that the de Runes share and the struggles that they endure during their journey, elements that were already so well developed the first time around and are just as good if not even better this time around help elevate Requiem to a level of its own among similar story-driven games. A Plague Tale: Requiem took me on a journey I won’t soon forget. I loved its gameplay evolutions over its predecessor and much like Innocence, I fell in love with its characters, laughed and smiled gleefully at their exchanges, all while bearing my teeth and holding my breath through some of its chapters. While the story pacing is slightly off and stretches on longer than it needs, this is a beautiful, compelling and enriching game with a budget to provide some truly epic, jaw-dropping moments.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is a prime example of what a AA studio, given enough trust and resources, can accomplish. It’s a concise experience that didn’t waste my time, but it also scratched an itch I didn’t even know I had: a well-crafted stealth title meshed with folk horror elements that I had been craving since Siren: Blood Curse’s release in 2008. With an emotionally resonant script and an expert flow between stealth, horror, and exploration, A Plague Tale: Requiem feels like the sequel Innocence deserves.

A Plague Tale: Requiem gave me the chills. The graphics, sound design and writing are all phenomenal, and the gameplay is fantastic. There are a few issues with sneaking sections feeling samey, the puzzles being a little too easy, but these are forgivable for just how excellent Amicia and Hugo are as characters. If you enjoyed the first game, or you're just looking for something narratively compelling, Requiem is the game for you.

Started this today. Surprised the game doesn’t start with a story recap. You definitely should watch a recap before starting.

Game looks great and runs well on the XSX. Only a couple of chapters in so hard to talk too much about it. If you liked the first, this is definitely more of that so far.

I hear it gets incredible later on. It's roughly 20 hours long. I'll play this soon. I forget most of the first one so I guess I'll have to watch a story recap on YouTube before playing.

I started it last night but it was pretty late so I only really just started Act 2. It looks like it's gonna be just like the first in that I could only play it in small chunks.

The first game stressed me out much in the same way Walking Dead and Game of Thrones did. Just so much grim imagery and themes. I could only watch those shows one or two episodes at a time cuz they were such downers.

That said, I loved the first one, it just took me forever to get through.

I am the same. I can maybe play one chapter at a time. Shit is too intense for me.

Oh hell yeah, the PC version supports DualSense! That was one of the reasons I ended up playing the first game on PS5 over PC. Even though my PC could pump out higher performance/fidelity, the DualSense features won me over completely. Feeling the rat hoards pitter-patter around on your fingertips truly cranks up the immersion factor and is quite freaky!
