GeneticBlueprint Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 At Least 5 Dead After Pileup Involving 100+ Vehicles Traps Drivers, Shuts Down I-35W In Fort Worth DFW.CBSLOCAL.COM Fort Worth police spokesperson Officer Daniel Segura has confirmed at least 5 people were killed in the crash. Jesus Christ. It's like that scene from the Matrix Reloaded over there. Quote
Uaarkson Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 Keep expanding those freeways, Texas. These are rookie numbers. Quote
PaladinSolo Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 "We pretreated the roads 2 days ago!" lol. Quote

CitizenVectron Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 It's easy to make fun of people (often unfairly) for not knowing how to drive in cold conditions (it's all about predicting and controlling inertia), but how can people hit stopped cars going that fast? Quote
Guest Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 This is why I roll my eyes at people for making jokes about schools and businesses closing here when freezing temps and rain are forecast. We simply have no training for driving in such conditions. Me and mine are going nowhere Monday and Tuesday with temps in the teens and rain on the way. Quote
Spawn_of_Apathy Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 I’m so glad I do t need to take that route to work. I35 is full of morons when there is no ice. people in Texas have no clue. They slam in the breaks when they’re in a froze bridge. Or they’ll drive 20mph in an AWD vehicle on a dry road because it’s 26 degrees. Fucking idiots. Quote

Spawn_of_Apathy Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 I’m not looking forward to Sunday and Monday. We’re not getting above 25, with a low of 0 and precipitation both days. Knowing Texas it will definitely be ice. Quote

Portland literally owns no snow plows. When it does actually snow and stick (once every 2-3 years or so) the whole city shuts down. But, like, what do you want them to do? Most people have hardly ever driven in the snow. The city doesn't have plans in place to salt/gravel the roads. And often it doesn't remain cold enough for the snow to stay powdery, it just turns to a sheet of ice. Quote
CastlevaniaNut18 Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 It was fun driving home from work this morning in the ice and slush. Thankfully not much traffic on the interstate so I just put it in 4WD and drove about 35-40. I work next Mon-Wed and the forecast is super cold with a good bit of snow(for here). I’d rather have snow than ice, though. Quote

PaladinSolo Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 Roads are only safe to drive on in these conditions if they're like paving the roads with salt. Our roads are almost white when they're dry this time of year lol. Quote
dualhunter Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 Experience and training driving on icy roads just means you have a 40 car pile up instead of 100. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/40-vehicle-pileup-interstate-80-iowa/ https://montreal.ctvnews.ca/as-many-as-40-cars-in-pileup-on-highway-40-east-of-montreal-1.5297584 though there was this last year so maybe not: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/montral-south-shore-highway-15-pileup-1.5468787 Quote
