So 2042 is just kind of seeing what is available now, and what 21 years could do, so things like the robot dog? Certainly possible. The one specialist that has that motion sensor as his trait? Yeah we could have that. Are we going to have jetpacks and mechs? Probably not. 

 

If anything the thing to complain about would be the game using current modern day models for some of the equipment and vehicles that will probably be updated in 21 years, even if functionality is pretty much the same. Like are we really going to still be using that model of the FAST helmet, that model of Little Bird helicopters, or that model of tank? Again functionality and tech wise it might all be pretty much the same (so no hovering tanks), but the exact same model is weird. I do believe though that DICE has created some future weapons as some videos mentioned the M5 as a replacement for the M4A1. 

 

If anything I think they named it 2042 just to keep it in line with the other names of the series with Battlefield 1942, and Battlefield 2142 without thinking too too hard about whether or not something is too far advanced, or not enough.

 

The tank is new i think. Doesn't look like a M1 Abrams. It has wedge turret cheeks like a Leopard 2A5 and above tanks.

 

I looked at the trailer again and @Commissar SFLUFAN it's a KA-52. The nose is rounded as opposed to angular.

They might be prototypes, but given the game takes place 21 years from now, couldn't DICE just use what they think the finished model would be? Wasn't the XM8 from Bad Company 2 a prototype weapon? So it hasn't stopped them before. I suppose it also depends on the copywrite and contracts they have, but even then like other games do they could just not use the official names, and slightly tweak the look.

Dice has no qualms about using prototypes

Hellriegel 1915- Only 1 ever built

SMG 08/18 - People arnt even sure who built this

Cei-Rigotti- Was never used or manufactured

General Liu Rifle: Was never used or manufactured

Fedorov Avtomat- Suposedly 3000 were manufactured but not sure how many made it to combat

I would not be surprised if that's in one of the maps, or at least one of the future ones. One of the maps in Battlefield 4 had a "levelution" trigger that would flood the whole map. I have to imagine at some point there being a map where you look out to the sea and see a huge tidal wave coming in. 

 

These weather events could go either way. They might be really cool to see the first couple of times, but then get old and annoying, and something the community starts hating because they just want to shoot the enemy team in peace. Imagine being on a really good streak that gets ended not through your own fault, but because a twister dropped a tank on you out of nowhere. I'm hoping they really do add to the experience though.

Ohhh this would definitely be up my alley. Just a mode to fuck around and do cool battlefield shit in, perfect. I hope it’s not just the remastered maps and the new maps are part of the hub play mode as well if this is true.

Yea, that does sound pretty damn cool. This may be the first online FPS I play in many years. I just don't know how it'll run on the Xbox One X 😕

Believe me, this fall I'm going to try. My main issue is I want to trade in my 3 consoles to get the xsx at Gamestop. That will basically pay for the console itself. 

 

Can you walk into a gamestop and preorder an XSX and when they get a shipment get a call for a pickup?

Hm, I’m not sure if they do a list or not, might be best to call them up and see for this particular move if you have any options. If you are lucky you could get someone cool who might be able to give you a hint on when to check for shipments.

I want both consoles. So frustrating it's such a bitch to get these. Luckily we still haven't fully entered next gen minus a few titles. But playing games at 60 with improved visuals etc is exciting.

An intern at my office does P/T there and he said 

You have to purchase online or catch the few when they arrive in stock. They are also doing a lot of bundle only purchases which jacks the price up. You pay full price online for it and do the pick up in store. When you go to pick it up if you want to do trade ins, the employee has to refund the purchase to you, do the trade ins and then you re- purchase. He also said some of the stores are very strict with the whole process and simply wont do it that way.

 

 

Something else to consider is that we likely wont see a tidal wave of consoles hit the market for the rest of the year. As newer and bigger titles come out the demand will continue to outstrip supply even more.  When Halo hits the market its gonna be twice as bad as it is now.

Wow, absolutely terrible news. Thank you for the information. That saves me a lot of trouble. I guess I won't own any next gen consoles until holiday 2022 at the earliest. Probably 2023 is more likely.

 

I'm pretty much ok with this. At that point I might as well wait for the mid cycle consoles. :/
