It’s like every group sees the next as not worthy of anti-discrimination laws, and thinks the next group needs to suffer/fight for as long as they had to. there are far too many humans that just don’t want to make it easier for those that come later. It's a problem with certain people who look down on those with lower educational credentials, and happen to be disproportionately democratic (because generally the more formal education you have correlates to Democratic voting, and polling shows this as well). And also given that more education generally means higher income and wealth, it becomes a class issue. The republicans can get away with it because they have racism and sexism to help them with WWC voters, along with (at least in Trump's case) performative support of "poorly educated people" (which if you recall he got dunked on for, repeatedly, even on this board).
