I agree in the sense that you shouldn't talk down about someone due to this, but.... considering the amount of, "Go back to bartending," AOC gets and the amount of, "Biden is dumb and didn't even go to Ivy League," that Biden got, it's interesting to me that he thinks this is a Democratic problem.

It's all credentialist classism, with a side of misogyny for aoc and boebert, and an additional side of racism for this criticism of aoc ("go back to bartending" is just a rewrite of "go back to your country" or some variation thereof; subtext being that she is out of her caste position, and therefore she doesn't belong in the halls of power)

Ya, but I don't understand how this is a Democratic issue. We can go further:

Democrats: People should get a higher minimum wage so they can keep up with rent and feed themselves and their families.

Conservatives: THEY CAN'T EVEN GET MY BURGER RIGHT!

Democrats: People shouldn't struggle and we should have a safety net.

Conservative: FREELOADERS! YOU DON'T WORK AND YOU'RE LAZY AND I CAN'T STAND PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO DON'T WORK.

Poor immigrants of color: I want to come to America for a better life as I flee persecution.

Conservatives: DEY TOOK ER JERBS

The person who tweeted this is right that it doesn't win people over, but the idea that elitism is an exclusively Democratic problem (and make no mistake, that's the overarching point because that's the stereotype the person is saying this is perpetuating) is the wrong premise. Nobody wants to be patronized about being unemployed through no fault of their own, about having to use food stamps/WIC, about being paid little and being told they have no skills, about having a "bad job," about being a poor person of color. These attacks are constant from the conservative base, and now we have January 6 video of them being batshit crazy on a different level.

She's not just a dumb hick, she wants to pull the ladder up behind her.

there is a lot of that on the Republican side. People who, yes, worked hard, but had government help they could take advantage of until they were more financially self sufficient. Once they reached a point of success they look down upon anyone that “escaped” their circumstances yet, and think it’s a waste of their tax money to help those people.

but pulling the ladder up behind them isn’t unique to Republicans. More Democratically minded people do it do on other issues. Many women who fought for Women’s suffrage didn’t support black civil rights. And many from both groups didn’t support gay rights. And not all gays support transgender rights. It’s like every group sees the next as not worthy of anti-discrimination laws, and thinks the next group needs to suffer/fight for as long as they had to.

there are far too many humans that just don’t want to make it easier for those that come later. They want everyone to have to work just as hard to harder to “earn it”.

It's not strictly a democratic problem. It's a problem with certain people who look down on those with lower educational credentials, and happen to be disproportionately democratic (because generally the more formal education you have correlates to Democratic voting, and polling shows this as well). And also given that more education generally means higher income and wealth, it becomes a class issue.

The republicans can get away with it because they have racism and sexism to help them with WWC voters, along with (at least in Trump's case) performative support of "poorly educated people" (which if you recall he got dunked on for, repeatedly, even on this board).

Future NYT headline:

"AOC uses strong language against her would-be assassins. Could this lack of civility and decorum hurt Dems in the mid-terms?"

Future WSJ opinion piece:

"Biden called for unity, yet Democrats refuse to be executed by the mob. This lack of cooperation is why real Americans hate the Beltway."

What is with all the hate AOC gets? I even have a friend that alluded to not liking her, although I don't know why (she's a "socialist"? She's anti-gun? IDK). The fact that these people were probably going to kill her if they found her is terrifying. I didn't watch her video, so I don't know what she went through, but I'm glad she made it out.

she’s a woman and a minority and wants to actually change things for the better. three things white men hate.

Because Fox News runs half-true exaggerated ridiculous scare stories about her around the clock.

They are probably attempting a "Hillary" and playing the long game of turning her into such a cartoonish villain that she won't be able to have success on a national stage.

I don't think that will work though. AOC is adored by the left, not so much with Hillary.
