The problem was that one of only two majors ruling political parties that already controlled a significant majority of federal and local governments, and their own spin media network, was more than willing to provide them cover and legitimacy. nobody on the left saw the resurgence of populism and white nationalists ideology and thought “yeah this won’t be a big problem in the near future”. we saw the inevitability of the capitol raid when facts, irrefutable facts. Not assumptions, estimates, or interpretations, but facts became divisive political weapons. Republicans don’t want to believe facts that counter the narrative they want. GOP and voters. They’re the ones most surprised by this, because they’ve been lead to believe that only violent, Democracy and law hating groups were antifa and BLM, who burns down every city in a violent range everywhere they protest. The only thing that has really surprises me about the capitol riot was how few injuries and deaths there were. And that’s just because I assumed capitol police would protect the legislative branch against these rioters with the same over eager enthusiasm as they would a group of disabled Americans trying to pretest in the Capital building.
