The alt right is welcoming of many groups that are currently or in the past would have been considered non white--eastern europeans, italians, jews, etc. Simply because they want their numbers larger to go against blacks and latinos.

The head of the proud boys is Afro-Cuban and is as dark as I am.

Mr. McConnell, Republican of Kentucky has indicated he wants to see the specific article of impeachment that the House is set to approve on Wednesday, which is expected to draw support from as many as a dozen Republicans, potentially including Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming, the party’s No. 3 in the House. But he has made clear in private discussions that he believes now is the moment to move on the weakened lame duck, whom he blames for Republicans losing the Senate.

Hes gonna move on him like a bitch!

Maybe this is one of those rare moments where Mitch's goals randomly align with what's best for the nation.

Rare moment? It’s never fucking happened even once

I use the probabilistic notion of a "rare event" in which a rare event is anything with a sufficiently low probability of occurring. This has the implication that for very rare events, you would need a very large sample to make any measurement at all. This might be our one!

This Essay in the Times is worth a read in general, and (among many things) it makes a good case for why we would see Mitch think Impeachment might be a good idea:

[The essay outlines two types of Republicans: those concerned above all with gaming the system to maintain power (gamers), and those who think they can break the system and hold onto power (breakers]

Quote

Trump is, for now, the martyr in chief, the high priest of the big lie. He is the leader of the breakers, at least in the minds of his supporters. By now, the gamers do not want Trump around. Discredited in his last weeks, he is useless; shorn of the obligations of the presidency, he will become embarrassing again, much as he was in 2015. Unable to provide cover for their gamesmanship, he will be irrelevant to their daily purposes.

In the short term I'm happy to have the help of any republicans who suddenly decide to grow a spine... BUT, and it's a big ass fucking BUTT...

I will never forgive them. They did this to the country and they all proved, EVERY SINGLE FUCKING ONE OF THEM... that they literally care about nothing. It's all a fucking game to them. If you can fall in line for a man like Trump, you are capable of anything and you are not a person who can ever be taken seriously again. EVER.

I consider them all traitors... not to the country, not to the constitution... but literal traitors to the human race and all of humanity.
