And most people have 0 to do with these extractive jobs! Traditional dems do have a problem with rural working class/Appalachian/extractive industry (read: largely white) workers. When your answer to their problems is "retraining(lol)/move/good luck" then yeah you're gonna fight hard for what little you have, not considering cultural issues.

When neither party really has a plan for your economic well-being, you go with the group that you culturally are fine with! And it's going to take a lot of work to overcome a generation+ of neglect.

Unlike most I don't think rural whites are lost to Republicans forever--what works for them is what works for everyone in the working class. But you're not going to get that with neoliberal "learn to be a nurse" or "learn to code" discourse or policy

No, I’d say you go with the one who isn’t maligning you and calling for an end to the only career you’ve ever known. Of course there are absolutely cultural issues added on to this.

My point is that democrats and environmentalists have had horrible messaging on this issue. I regularly see these people fighting to close places that employ part or whole of small communities. Its why climate denial was such a strong tactic for the GOP and corporate America. Because when average rural Americans hear the left openly saying “we don’t care about your jobs”, they hear “we don’t care if your family eats, if you can pay your mortgage or not, or if you can afford to send your kids to college”. Economically depressed people aren’t thinking rationally. Every day is a struggle and they focus their anger on what they see as “entitled leftists who have never struggled”. And of course the GOP is happy to jump on that.

This is referring to the original.

the original never used “fracking” as a term.

Trump has released the raw footage of the 60 minutes interview:

lol, and he thinks this footage makes him look good?

I made it 2 minutes and had to turn it off.

It's just unfathomable and unforgivable that anyone could support this man.

Yet half the internet is praising him and acting like asking hard questions and pushing for answers is unacceptable. People are gone mad.

Starbuck's story end is the only part I didn't like :p

I still think the finale could have been much better received by just cutting to credits after the camera pulls back on the wide shot of Adam sitting next to Roslin's grave. Instead of ending on a powerful note they end on that goofy Times Square scene, which just serves to give you time to think about your problems with the finale.

What about the part where some of the crew and civilians wished to continue living with modern tech, but instead of letting them fly off to explore other worlds, BSG flew all their ships into the sun and cast them into primitive squalor?

🤷‍♂️ It was the best decision in all four seasons

Editing is a big part of dramatic tension and I think I do agree that a smash cut to the title card would work better and you could still keep the final scene as a true epilogue.

It was part of the statement that the show was making. I mean I guess I could comment on my opinion of the action but it would be a reflection of my view on the ethics not on the quality of the writing.

I get that...but it was executed very poorly. The message is that technology was a mistake...except it was inevitable that technology would be developed again.

They knew it would be developed again. I think they even say it.  They just felt it was best to start over.

That... was the whole point of the story? I think you misunderstood the message. It's not that tech was a mistake it's that our tech capability far outpaced our societal evolution. Adama literally says this.

Wanted to kill Biden (and whoever else), and then escape to Canada, which makes no sense. Like Canada wouldn’t send him back?

”We’re sorry America, we know he killed your next president, but we can’t  give him back. You’ll be mean to him, we can’t have that!”
