Joe Biden beats Donald Trump, officially making Trump a one-term twice impeached, twice popular-vote losing president

I honestly don't think any of us on this board is suffering from "normalcy bias" in the least or have any expectation that things will "revert to how they used to be" (nor should they because that is precisely how we got to this place to begin with).

In fact, it's quite the opposite: this board is fully cognizant that the American system is fundamentally, irreversibly, and irreparably broken in all aspects: politically, economically, socially, and morally. We are way past the point of no return and this Pyrrhic victory represents merely an interregnum on the downward slope of continued imperial descent.

The United States of America IS a "failed state".  As for how long this national polity lasts, I would be shocked if there are more than 40 years left.

I dunno, saying that faithless electors shouldn’t be a thing was somehow controversial a few days ago :p

As I listen to right wing radio around 15 minutes a day and selectively watch Newsmax clips, one of their main arguments is that Biden couldn't have won that many votes because no one was at his rallies. I'm told it doesn't feel right, and you're not alone if you don't think it feels right either! I guess this sort of propaganda has worked very well throughout human history so I should not be surprised.

I really want to yell at these idiots "that's because the democrats aren't suicidal cultists!"

Of course, plenty of a democrats are dumb as fuck, but Trump really has cultivated the cultists.

There's even development in having primary care doctors replaced with AI.

FWIW, this won't happen anytime soon. I mean, not unless we plan on making medical care 10000x worse than it already it is. The most you'll get is AI used to route issues to the right doctor.

Then the whole system collapses because it turns out Jeff Bezos can't keep making billions when people don't have any money to spend. And then the system fails because capitalism doesn't care about "useless mouths." Then there's y'know, the planet dying.

Depends on what you mean by collapse. IMO, the worst case of capitalism powered by AI is the rich became fewer and own more with a fleet of robots doing whatever they want for them. Their robot force becomes the main currency of control. In other words, Jeff Bezos unfortunately remains fine in this worst case.

I freely admit that I am feeling some real schadenfreude over this. Trump's administration and his supporters are truly awful people--wretches who did everything within their power to harm others. His administration has stood for white supremacy, corruption, and a run-away train to fascism. And his supporters have been with him every step of the way. I hope they are feeling miserable today. I hope they are crying into their MAGA hankies. I hope they feel one teeny ounce of the pain that they have spread throughout the world.

On a side note, while there is a bit of schadenfreude, I also think there is something slightly tragic in the way the MAGA folk were/are being conned.

I recently looked at the FEC disbursements for Trump's reelection fund, and checked all the times the latter gave money to Trump businesses or properties.  It's mind-boggling.

A good portion of that fund is financed via small donor contributions--like, average Janes and Joes.  Basically what you have is people--many of them poor, pissed off blue-collar people--who have donated money to Trump's campaign, part of which he has summarily redirected towards his businesses.  All while selling them a narrative that he's looking out for them.

There are a lot of cons in politics, but this might just qualify as one of the most brazen, when all is said and done.  Were many of the people conned assholes? (or at least some variety of racist/sexist/etc.)  Probably.  But it's still, in its own way, sad to see.

Amazon eats roboticists like they do small businesses. I swear, I know ten times more engineers go to Amazon Robotics than just go to any robotics company not owned by Amazon.

It's great to know the future Robocops are named Alexa. It's a very feminist future. I can't wait for my minority ass to be beaten while also being asked if I want some painkillers shipped to my prison cell via Prime.

Have you guys seen Salvador? That's a great movie and James Woods is really good in it.

He's good in Any Given Sunday as well. He can be a good actor, have a high IQ, and still be a piece of shit in terms of his political and social views. It's not like those things are mutually exclusive.

Right, now quote the post where I claimed otherwise.

I don't think he was trying to say you did claim otherwise. It's just the James Wood the actor stanning was getting a little out of control there for a second. He is a monumental piece of shit.

If it makes you feel better, at least one (I think maybe all) of the original founders of Kiva robotics (which is the company Amazon bought for the warehouse robotics that then became "Amazon Robotics") no longer work at Amazon. Moreover, a lot of the the other Kiva employees moved on.

I didn't mean to imply that you claimed otherwise. I was just commenting on the great/genius art, horrible artist thing that is fairly commonplace.

People go off on tangents on D1P nonstop so I was just commenting on some cool movies, not stanning for James Woods. He's been known to be a fucking tool for a long time. If it looked otherwise, my bad for my curt response.

And as a sidenote, I think his fall from grace into the abyss that is a TV biopic of Rudy G. is really funny and I'm gonna hate-watch it.

Eh...I'm just being salty because they're like half an hour from me and I hear from their recruiters like four times a year. Everyone I know that's left places like iRobot, FLIR, Boston Dynamics/SoftBank go there. It's crazy and I refuse to believe that Amazon isn't OmniCorp. Their Ring and police shenanigans aren't helping, though.

No problem man, it's a message board and shit like that happens.

Here's the funny thing, I wouldn't stan for him as a person, like I said, piece of shit, but Woods can be a really fucking good character actor. So I guess that I'm a fan of his acting. The same goes for Jon Voight(Deliverance, Mission Impossible, Heat, Enemy of the State) and Randy Quaid (I think he makes the Christmas and Vegas Vacation films much better).

Dude, you're totally fine. Let us marvel at the terribleness of that movie once more.

This reminds me, it's time enough to start watching Christmas vacation

“Everyone on our side wonders how 70 million people could have voted for this president with their eyes open,” former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg said in an interview with The Daily Beast. “If they believe these 70 million people are evil, then our country is not going to make it. If, on the other hand, you believe they’re largely working from different information, or so-called information, than the rest of us, then the real problem is not the character of the voters as it is the nature of the information that’s getting to them. Then we have a responsibility to try and change the information they receive.”

Damn @Fizzzzle, we could use this guy in the "Stop Demonizing Trump Supporters" thread.

You can lead a horse to water, etc. My girlfriend tried to get her mom to consider getting her news from PBS and was thoroughly rebuffed. A lot of those people don’t want the truth, they want to appease their feelings.

This. In my experience it has absolutely zero to do with finding some semblance of objective truth (as much as there can be). It all boils down to sticking with that shitty sports team you picked and have to be a die-hard fan of through a million lost championships because it's your hometown and FUCK YOU.
