Hey, at least this time they'd have control of redistricting in a bunch of states if they win this year. 2010 was low-key as important as 08.

What's stopping republicans from taking power and then doing another redistricting round like Texas in 2002/2004 or so?

The first budget Frey authored as mayor focused heavily on affordable housing. Its $40 million allocation to affordable housing was triple what the city previously spent on affordable housing.[23]

As mayor, Frey is pushing for a plan that would allow the building of four-plexes in every part of the city. Two-thirds of Minneapolis is zoned exclusively for single-family homes.[24]

In 2018, the Minneapolis City Council voted for Minneapolis 2040, a comprehensive rezoning reform plan.[25][26] According to Slate, the plan would "permit three-family homes in the city’s residential neighborhoods, abolish parking minimums for all new construction, and allow high-density buildings along transit corridors."[27] Slate wrote that by implementing the plan, "Minneapolis will become the first major U.S. city to end single-family home zoning, a policy that has done as much as any to entrench segregation, high housing costs, and sprawl as the American urban paradigm over the past century."[27]

As Chief Prosecutor, Amy Klobuchar Declined to Bring Charges Against Cop that Killed George Floyd

Quote

Klobuchar also called for a “complete and thorough outside investigation into what occurred, and those involved in this incident must be held accountable.” However, this is unlikely to occur, in no small part because of Klobuchar herself and the precedent she set while serving as the state’s chief prosecutor between 1999 and 2007. In that time, she declined to bring charges against more than two dozen officers who had killed citizens while on duty – including against Chauvin himself, who shot and killed Wayne Reyes in 2006 and would later go on to shoot more civilians while in uniform.

Quote

Chauvin has killed multiple times before while in uniform, has shot and wounded others and is well-known to local activist groups.

She is a piece of shit. Hopefully this kills her VP chances.

Biden’s better off with Tammy Baldwin anyway if he’s trying to strengthen his appeal in the Midwest, which is all Klobuchar is really good for.  As of right now Wisconsin’s still well out of his reach according to the polls.

If by out of reach, you mean leading.

Not exactly a comfortable lead and not better than how Hillary fared close to election day, but out of reach, he is not.

My guess is that the veepstakes are a difficult choice between Harris and Warren. They seem equally but differently balanced and would be equally effective/competent heading other agencies.

I think it'd be smart of Biden to announce at least a partial cabinet staff along with VP. Soften the blow of anyone strongly dedicated to one or the other. Come out as a team; or a "stable," if you will.

I wish all candidates would do this. They should also announce who they would select for the Supreme Court. Court appointments have such long-term ramifications and Cabinet officials have so much to do with the day-to-day running of the country. Voters should have this info.

The opposition candidate should announce what amounts to a "shadow cabinet" which then acts essentially like one during the campaign by issuing "alternative" policies to the official government policy.

Admittedly not...the vast majority ..around 30 or so were centrist Republicans before Trump. But from what I'm seeing...this seems to be the norm across the country as they are choosing to double down.

Every Republican could turn into this and it's still not half the country.

Side note: they were impossible to talk to during the Bush years. Doubling down and ignoring facts didn't begin with Trump; he's just what they already were without the facade.

Naw..we discussed the failures of the war and bad economic policies that led to the housing crisis and other stuff all the time with no issues.  It was really when all these conspiracy theories about Hilary started being pushed over and repeated ad nauseum that things devolved.   Trump isn't stupid...he knows that a lie repeated enough can become the truth.

What does your family have to do with the entire country? They're not representative, nor does it change that every Republican could be loony and they still wouldn't get to half the country.

Republicans spread rumors about the Clintons murdering people in the 90s as well; they simply resurfaced in 2016.

Aren't you paying attention?   that shit is happening everywhere.  This isn't some isolated case... Republicans win because their base stays hyperfocused on winning. I mean..I'm not voting for Joe...the top of my ballot is gonna be blank...but even though moderate republicans out there don't approve of Trump as a person...they aren't gonna not vote for him.

You just went into this thread and said, "Half the country are Trump sycophants because look at my family." Your family is irrelevant, Republicans have sucked for ages and got what they always wanted in Trump, and Republicans aren't half the country.

Are you listening at all?

Polling can always be wrong (though it was pretty good nationally in 2016 and 2018), but it doesn't look like the GOP is making inroads into any new groups right now. Quite the opposite. Anything can happen, but the fundamentals favour Biden right now, especially with the double-hater group of voters seemingly swinging from Trump to Biden. GOP voters may be more hostile and pro-Trump than in 2016 (where many held their noses to spite Clinton), but they haven't grown their base.
