  1. Now that the calendar has rolled over to 2019, it's time to post our usual thread where we talk about what games in 2019 we're current playing, have completed, what we thought of 'em, etc. Remember that it's not necessary for the game to actually be released in 2019! I'm going to pick up where I left off in December by completing Metro: Last Light Redux as my first game of 2019.

  6. I'm having this weird issue when I'm playing my PS4, where whenever I earn a Trophy the sound completely cuts out for a couple of seconds while the notification pops up. Kind of annoying, especially if a character is talking. I've noticed it will also happen if I take a screenshot, so it seems to be whenever the PS4 UI pops up. There have been a couple of times where I've earned a Trophy and it didn't happen, but I don't know what I've done differently in order to prevent this. I noticed this used to happen a little bit on my old TV and sound bar, where the sound from the sound bar would cut out for a couple seconds randomly, but it wasn't as bad because sound from the TV itself would still play, but now with the new TV and sound bar, all sounds go through just the sound bar. Has anyone else encountered this problem and have any solutions? Googling it didn't seem to help.

  8. I know many of us very much enjoyed his first book "Blood, Sweat, and Pixels" and were really pleased to hear that he's working on a second book about the gaming industry. Those of us on his mailing list received an update from him yesterday regarding the status of the book and it seems that he's "rebooted" the project to have a more focused purpose: Time for a status report! As you might already know, I signed a contract last year with HarperCollins to write a new book about video games. As you might not know, last fall I realized that my original idea wasn't coming together. It was too broad, too vast, too hard to sum up in a single sentence while talking to friends and colleagues. I had gotten some good material -- material that I'll almost certainly use either for this project or a future one -- but the book wasn't coalescing in the ways I was hoping. So I rebooted! My second book is now headed in a different direction, one that I think is working out so far. Throughout 2019, I'll be reporting and writing this new iteration of book two. I'm keeping the details vague because who knows what might change, but the short version is: It's going to dig into some of the darker aspects of game development, and it'll hopefully help humanize events that we think about in the abstract. From the start, I didn't want book two to be just another compilation of game development stories -- I wanted to try something different. I knew that'd be a riskier approach, but I also wouldn't have been satisfied doing the same exact thing a second time. Right now we're looking at a Spring 2020 release, but as countless E3 press conferences have shown us, anything can change. I'll be staying quiet about this for the next few months as I continue to write and report. Expect to hear much more from me later this year. Happy New Year, and I hope you all have an excellent 2019. Jason
  9. I'm guessing Microsoft pulled its support for the game. To refresh memories, this is the game's E3 2017 reveal trailer:

  11. So my Steam account was hacked and I can't sign in. In order to get support for anything on their website, you need to sign in. I try to follow the steps to reset my account and they email me a security code to enter. After I enter it, it tells me that the same type of request already exists and a duplicate request cannot be created. It's been like that for a couple of days now. I tried calling Valve and the only option they have is to leave a message with a generic voicemail box. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd love to hear it.
  12. This was posted in the Odyssey thread, but I think it deserves it's own discussion. Google has announced that they will start testing their long rumored game streaming service, currently called "Project Stream." You can sign up here, and if selected you will be able to play Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey for free, streamed to your Chrome browser until January. The demo video on their page shows the game being played at 1080p 60fps. I've said it before and I still think it's true that game streaming is the future. If the latency is good enough and if the computing is cheap enough (and those are both big ifs), Google could really open the floodgates. The rumored MS service likely wouldn't be far behind and I'd have to imagine that Amazon would be in there right quick. Oddly enough, the low resolution, underpowered Switch would in many ways be an ideal platform for game streaming, but there's zero chance that Nintendo could pull that off anytime soon. Part of the sign up process is your zip code, so I have to imagine that this is only going to be available to people within a certain radius of whatever datacenters Google is running this test out of. If something like this is going to suitably work, it's almost certainly going to need a distributed architecture, and Google is quite good at that. I think it's fair to be skeptical, but this could be the game streaming service that actually takes the idea mainstream.
  13. @chakoo Thanks new video is out. Thanks for sending me the games.
  14. God of War Kingdom Come: Deliverance Smash Ultimate Mario Party (Switch) l haven’t had a chance to try any of them yet. Visiting relatives, running errands, etc. Honestly, I can’t wait to try Kingdom Come. I know what to expect out of the other games. Buy I’m pretty much going in blind on KC.

This gen has been a disaster for them. Ni no Kuni 2 was fraught with development issues, went over budget, and sold, uh... Not so great. So its engine is the basis for Yo-kai Watch 4 and Inazuma Eleven Ares. Both, but specifically the latter, have faced multiple delays with development issues cited as the root problem, and they have completely clogged up the Level-5 business model of cross-media promotion. Now Inazuma Eleven has seen like 5 skipped weeks in its anime in the past 2 months because they are desperately trying to keep the show from getting so far ahead that it would be impossible for the games to catch up. In addition, toy sales, their only solid income source from the property, are down. Then, Merry Christmas, Ares is delayed for a 5th time. This gen has brought Level-5 to its knees. It's really depressing to watch. EDIT: And this is not to mention the botched Switch accessory line launch, the ID holder line that got cancelled because of dismal pre-order numbers, and the clear budget nosedive in the anime these past few months."

  19. Been a while since I came in, I joined back in 2010. I just decided to browse it around and can not discern what forums are what anymore? No PC forum? Handlheld? Just a big giant NEOGAF deal? Weird ass names as well. Maybe it’s just me. Maybe it works great. Just seeing what the heck happened.
