  1. After countless hours memorizing the map, familiarizing themselves with the various weapons, and refining tactics for all character mixes, the skill of top Apex Legends players reached the point this week where the game is impossible for average people to enjoy. “It’s really gratifying that I’m good enough to completely overwhelm and frustrate newcomers to the game,” said self-described “entrepreneur” and Apex Legends regular Mark Haglund, 32, explaining how in just over three weeks, he had managed to invest over 200 hours in figuring out the ideal drop locations and flanking maneuvers, causing casual gamers playing against him and his friends to simply quit in frustration. “I admit I hated it at first—everyone was on the same level and everyone had a decent chance to win any given game. What’s the point of a game like this if I’m not systematically crushing normies and making the experience miserable and confusing for 95 percent of the player base?” Haglund added that once Apex Legends had become a virtual ghost town due to the actions of players such as himself, he was looking forward to trying out Anthem. Feel good story of the week.

  3. Sounds like it would be iOS centric: https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2019-03-23-apple-reportedly-working-on-premium-games-subscription-for-the-app-store https://9to5mac.com/2019/01/28/apple-reportedly-plans-netflix-for-games-subscription-service/ Bonus: An indie publisher from a few days ago. Apple apparently isn't the only one doing this. (he later clarified that Games Pass and PSN+ don't operate this way)
  4. Given the GOTY is just a few weeks away, just thought I would create a place to post all things FH4. Edition Comparison -- Note these are different than FH3 Base Game ($59.99) -- FH 4 Formula Drift Car Pack Deluxe Edition ($79.99) --Base + Car Pass Ultimate Edition ($99.99) -- Deluxe + VIP + Expansion 1 + Expansion 2 + Day One Car Pack + Play 4 days early That's right -- the Deluxe edition does not contain VIP this year, but has the car pack instead. HOWEVER, the Ultimate Edition seems to have tremendous value -- all of the content from the FH3 UE -- plus both expansions included! This cost $35 extra on FH3.
  5. "Cyberpunk 2077" gives players “3 to 5” ways to solve quests Speaking in a comment on Reddit, Cyberpunk 2077’s Quest Designer Phillipp Weber noted that the quest designs are “more complex in some areas” thanks to there often being a variety of ways to complete missions. “[…] as a quest designer, I now have to consider the different new opportunities we offer (like using Netrunning Skills, etc.) and how using those often gives you more (as an example, 3 to 5 in some cases) ways how to solve a quest or challenges within a quest. This naturally makes quest designs more complex in some areas, but it's honestly great fun to do.”

  7. This can be the new "what are you playing this weekend" thread. Lately, I've been completely absorbed in Persona 5. It's amazing. I played 10 hours when it first released, quit for over a year, now I'm back at it, hardcore. Just completed the 4th palace last night. I absolutely adore the mix of traditional turn-based RPG play and social simulation. I'm over 40 hours in and still have a looong way to go, but I'm enjoying the ride quite a bit.
  8. I've been saying for months that streaming & subscriptions are headed towards a 'premium cable' model. That prediction might have just got a shot in the arm. Jez Corden (Microsoft insider at Windows central) says that Microsoft might be looking to sell xCloud servers to interested 3rd parties. That means a streaming version of EA Access, for example, could run on their servers. Any interested party could have a discussion with them about developing their own offshoots. Given what we know about the state of PC launchers today, the big 3rd party players could be very receptive to that idea. IMO, it's clear that Games Pass won't become the 'Netflix of games,' or at least what Netflix once was. Too many companies see the benefit of not putting their biggest releases into someone else's basket. But few companies have the infrastructure to support their own cloud services. If Jez is right, Microsoft might have found a way to still come out ahead in the inevitable splintering process. It could also stop publishers from running to Google's lap, should they also pursue a subscription model. ... Crazy times ahead. I will say, the more things fracture into individualized subscriptions, the happier I'll be sticking to direct purchases.

  10. 1pm Eastern, 5pm UK. What is it? Console? Streaming service? Dreamcast 2? Another Ouya type waste of time? Lots of rumours, very few facts so far. Are you hyped? Is this going to be 'The Future'? You can watch it here:
  11. The Arcade Collection releases April 18th. The others early summer 2019. And more Castlevania collections are coming:
  12. Didn't see this posted anywhere so I thought I'd share. Some new stuff in here I've never seen before. Still high on my most anticipated list.

  14. I can't be the only one playing a Baba is You, right? Game has a weak 87 on Open Critic because nobody seems to have played it long enough to review. It's available on Steam and the Switch eShop. As much as I like it, this game has a habit of making me feel really stupid. Puzzles seem impossible and then they just click and I feel like an idiot for not seeing the solution sooner.

  16. There's a new set coming, so I thought that the 4 of us who actually play this game could use a new thread to chat about it. :P The Boomsday Project will launch next Tuesday, August 7th. 135 New Cards Each class gets a new Legendary minion and a Legendary spell. New Keyword: Magnetic. Mechs are back! And now you can stick some of them onto others. A new theme without a keyword: Omega cards, which have an extra powerful effect that occurs if you have 10 mana crystals. Here's a handy Imgur album of the revealed cards (via Reddit) There are some doozies in there. The final reveal livestream is happening tomorrow, August 1st, at 10AM Pacific.
