  1. The sad thing is that people like MTG would absolutely love to find out this was a terror attack. She was probably glued to the initial news hoping and praying it was not an accident so she could use the tragedy as a political cudgel.
  2. I think the boat is owned by a company in Hong Kong but operated and maintained by a different company based out of Singapore which is a shell company (actually it's multiple shell companies, like a shell company inception) that's been setup specifically to shield the parent companies involved from things just like this. I'm no expert on international law, but I think it's going to be complicated.
  3. I saw an interesting take from a guy who works on ships like these. This is some sort of modern super ship that's designed to be as big as possible while still fitting through the Panama Canal. There aren't actually many of these ships in service. Margins are so tight in the international shipping industry that most of them are run by overworked skeleton crews and are poorly maintained. Stopping to properly service things costs time and money so they do the bare minimum. It possible the crew didn't do anything egregiously wrong, but were victims of circumstance, tight budget and poor training.
  4. These people are deranged. I don't understand how anyone who considers themselves to be a Christian can support Trump in any capacity. Truth is they can't, so if you voted for Trump and call yourself a Christian, you are not a Christian and you do not understand your own religion. You are most likely a dumb stupid idiot garbage person.
  5. Also, who is asking for super apps? That has always seemed like the worst idea ever. Talk about lock-in. For a country that is so concerned about everything involving China, shitting all over the most successful American company and saying the stated purpose of said shitting is to actively encourage a flood of cheap Chinese competitors seems a little weird to me. When they say they want force apple to make it easier for cheaper option to thrive, who are they envisioning will create these cheap options? When they say they want to encourage super apps, who do they envision creating these super apps? Amazon, Google, Meta, X? Does anyone think the world would be a better place if all anyone did on their phones was launch a google or amazon super app? Because that's what will happen. Anyway, Apple has no one to blame for this but themselves. They should have read the tea leaves a decade ago and started loosening up some of the dumber crap they were pulling... loosen up the App Store rules and adopting RCS into iMessage like 5 years ago would have probably gone a long way toward avoiding this and now they are going to end up with who knows what rules dropped on them. I just don't see how this will actually help the market be more open. This isn't going to create new competition, it's just going to strengthen all of their competitors... all of whom I trust way less than Apple.
  6. Apple will be allowing streaming apps and iMessage will also soon have full support for RCS. Marrick Garland presented some email exchanges in 2012 and a joke Tim Cook made during a Q&A session as evidence they are acting maliciously. I'm not sure I hold them in that much confidence either. It's kind of funny, because I do want apple to change their stance on most of these things, but I do not want the government to decide how they should do it. I think I'm just confused about when and how incredible common business tactics and strategies suddenly became anti-competitive. Where is the line?
  7. My main concern is that the our elected officials have proven time and time again that they have absolutely no fucking clue about any of this stuff. Apple's locked down system is as much of a selling point as it is a hindrance. That's kind of their whole deal. If you don't like it, you have plenty of other very viable options.
  8. I find a lot of rules in the App Store to be pretty shitty, but this really feels like they are kinda reaching on a lot of these points. Are they really a monopoly? They have half the market in the US and like 30% or something like that globally? Are they going to go after Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo for selling closed systems? This reminds me of when they went after Apple for the book store price fixing when Amazon had like 95% of the market. I find Googles stranglehold over search, advertising and web standards to be a million times more concerning personally...
  9. If (shudder) Trump wins the election, the Democrats should vote to impeach him for this exact offense (accepting money from foreign countries) on the very first day.
  10. My main takeaway was… how stupid is this woman? If I was a celebrity that had to interact with the general public, do you know how much random political content I would be posting? Most likely zero… and if I did post anything political, every message would be carefully thought out, diplomatic and positive. But let’s say hypothetically… I did post a bunch of dumb memes, and then got in trouble and had meetings and training sessions about it… do you know how many dumb memes I would post after that? Zero. Less than zero. I would shut the fuck up and keep my job, because the dumb crap she was posting was not going to change anyone’s minds or move the needle. It’s just more farting in a tornado and to what end? Clearly this woman has a massive ego and probably narcissistic personality disorder or who knows… but man, how stupid can you be? And I guess the answer is look at the nonsense she was posting and she was just about that stupid. Anyway, as hard as she tried to use this article to paint herself as some sort of sympathetic character in all of this, I have zero sympathy for her. None. It’s like she was on a hike, and someone was like, hey, there’s a big hole right there, don’t step there or you will fall and die… and she was like, “no one tells me what to do!!” …and jumps in the hole.
  11. That would make a hell of a tv show. He could be the VP, a starting QB and a secret special forces commando. He would be in White House board room, negotiating a peace treaty, when a man would burst through door, “mr vice president, you need to be in Baltimore! Kickoff is in 30 minutes, we won’t even have time to land!” He would nod and put on his helmet from under the table… and rip off his suit showing him to be wearing his full uniform… cut to a shot of jumping from a plane in a wing suit, parachuting onto the field right as the game is starting… montage of him winning the game... Then as he’s celebrating, a middle eastern man would walk onto the field and be like, Mr vice president, that was amazing, we have a deal… you’ve brought peace to the Middle East…
  12. Gina Carano on Getting Sacked From Star Wars and Her Grudge Match With Disney WWW.HOLLYWOODREPORTER.COM The ex-MMA sensation finally opens up about her 'Mandalorian' firing, the toxic tweets that led to it and why she’s tag-teaming with Elon Musk to take the entertainment giant to the mat.
  13. Among Us was a huge cultural event amongst the youths for like 3-4 months in 2020 at the height of lockdown. My understanding is that no one cares about it anymore and they will care even less 2 years form now when this comes out.
  14. He may as well make a bill to give everyone a pet unicorn. I mean, I 100% think this is a great idea, but this is America and good luck...
  15. DEI is probably the wrong term to use. Affirmative Action may be better... but I don't think that term is in use anymore. It's not perfect because there are people who are more qualified who get passed over in some situations. One of my good friends worked in a police department that put so much emphasis on promoting and hiring black police officers that it was basically impossible for white officers to advance. So what do they do? They all quit, which is what he did along with many others. Well, some of them also sued them for millions of dollars and won. I know this is an extreme example, but I think we can all agree that in a perfect world we wouldn't need to take someones race into the equation when hiring at all, unfortunately, we do not live in a perfect world and we have deep deep problems in our societal structures so much that without taking more drastic measures, they will never sort themselves out naturally.
  16. I feel like this would be like putting a gun to your head and pulling the trigger. Do these politicians not understand how popular TikTok is with young people these days? And if you do feel like it has to be done... why do it right before an election? I feel like the people who want this to happen won't care nearly as much as all the people who will be deeply pissed off about it. It would not be popular.
  17. I would say that less taxes, smaller government, desiring a strong military, being tougher on crime and favoring pure meritocracy over government mandated equality are the base pillars of a sane Republican Party and not some sort of crazy viewpoint. Not necessarily one I agree with, but we need people in power pulling in that direction too so we can land somewhere sane in the middle. The problem is that those are no longer the pillars and the entire party has gone completely batshit crazy.
  18. My understanding is that many pro athletes are hardcore right wingers. Come for the tax breaks & hardline meritocratic ideology... and stay for the culture war garbage!
  19. Aaron Rogers is absolutely insufferable. Listening to him speak is grating and physically painful. That said, I kind of want this to happen, even though I loath both of these men. ( edit: I loath RFK and Rogers, not Ventura, who has kinda lost it in his old age but I used to appreciate his candor even if I didn’t 100% agree with his politics. Dude was a true believer. )
