  1. There’s simply no benefits to gun ownership. If you put one in your house, you haven’t made anyone safer—all you’ve done is increase the chances of someone in your family getting shot. Look at what has happened to public life in America—schools are targets, malls are targets, theaters are targets, concerts are targets, houses of worship are targets. Guns are a plague that have destroyed our way of life. The lie is that a gun brings you freedom, the truth is that a gun has destroyed our freedom. It keeps us afraid and locked up in our homes. It has destroyed any sense of community that we can have. There are two sides in this debate—the side of life and freedom, and the side of sacrificing blood and children simply so an illusion of safety can penetrate your dim and paranoid mind.
  2. I haven’t started the show yet but I just also wanted to chime in and say Silence is maybe Scorsese’s best. Garfield has never been better. And that guy who played the Japanese inquisitor was astonishing.
  3. My “not involved in whale harassment” shirt is raising a lot of questions already answered by the shirt.
  4. Ah man this is sad. I haven't seen the most recent season of Curb, but he and Larry David had such wonderful chemistry.
  5. I support stars using their star power to make a personal project. This seems like something that has been wanting to make since the 90s. It should certainly be watchable, especially with that cast.
  6. The sequel has already bene filmed and will be released a few months after I guess. Parts 3 and 4 might be coming out later as well. I've never been the biggest Costner fan, but if he single-handedly revitalizes the western genre...
  7. So when the Texas electrical grid inevitably fails again, and all those IVF refrigerators conk out, we can charge Abbott with mass murder?
  8. This seems to be at least 10 years past the zeitgeist.
  9. I was at my in-laws so I ripped through Grendel by John Gardner. The philosophical nature of it blended well with the wine I was drinking all weekend. The Shootist by Glendon Swarthout is up there with my favorite westerns. I think the best westerns are the ones that attempt to reckon with the violence of American history. From the brutal, visceral descriptions of what a bullet does to a body, to the way our culture celebrates violence, this is a great one.
  10. I watched too many things since my update so I’ll just post a few. I finally watched Infernal Affairs and it rips. I’m not sure if I like it more than The Departed, but I definitely prefer the ending to the original. I’ll be watching the rest of the trilogy, though I heard they aren’t as good as the first. I also watched Peeping Tom, a great thriller from the early 60s. If you want something that breeds the creepy voyeurism of Rear Window and the psychosexual vibes of Psycho, Peeping Tom is your movie.
  11. They were on sale so I bought Ys 8 and have been playing it all weekend. It freaking rocks. I love it so far.
  12. We are one more guilty verdict away from seeing Don Jr. selling bootlegs outside a subway station.
  13. Somebody needs to do something about Fanatics. Have you seen the new uniforms??? All of them look like the shittiest cheapest knockoffs. Embarrassing.
  14. Another fun season in the books! As always @Slug, thanks for doing this.
  15. Understandably! He called all those pass plays and didn't give McCaffrey the ball! He also wanted the ball in overtime and didn't bother to explain the rules to his team. Big mistakes! Oh. I'm hearing that wasn't Wilks?
  16. America has always been a land of second chances.
  17. The deaths of children continue to be the price we pay so weirdos can play with guns.
  18. We lost something when we lost Technicolor.
  19. Trump would send every single member of his family to the firing squad if he thought it would earn him a single iota of more adoration.
