jeez louise he’s grifting off the bible now

This beautiful, unique, & easy to read Bible (KJV version) contains the chorus to the song on the inside cover, hand-written and signed by Lee Greenwood.

I’m not in any way religious and even I need a shower after seeing this.

I’m not religious but grew up religious so there’s a part of me that finds this to be the most offensive thing he’s done. 60 is a lot for even a hardcover Bible, much less a softcover one.

  2. I hated Afterlife and went into this one with low expectations. Basically only saw it because I work at an indie theater and get to see movies for free.

It’s more functional than Afterlife and has more humorous moments but it’s still not really a comedy. There’s too many characters and most of them are barely given anything to do. A better and less-safe movie would have focused more on the lesbian ghost relationship. Still, I was entertained enough at the time until the last 20 when it devolved into a CGI-goop fest.

Not sure why we are kinda making light of this. This is devastating material and from someone who suffered from sexual molestation I can relate to this.

I was also sexually abused as a kid and I too don’t find those jokes funny. I’m all for joking about fucked up things but you wanna make sure the butt of the joke is properly placed and avoid coming across as too flippant. At least IMO.

A classic and well-observed rule in comedy is “Comedy equals tragedy plus time”. While these abuses happened years ago this documentary is still very new and a lot of us are still processing it. I think if someone wants to joke about something as soon as the news hits that is their right but they don’t get to hide behind the “but it’s comedy!” defense either. When you knowingly break accepted rules in comedy you have to accept it may not go over well.

  4. I’m sure all of Putin’s opponents that died from suicide have nothing to do with him either. Just silly conspiracy theories really.

An unwavering trust in what the media tells you is not gonna help you if/when our country goes full-fascist. Better start questioning everything now. I’m not saying Boeing was definitely involved, but the circumstances are to fishy for me to say there is now way they weren’t involved. I know as little about what really happened as anyone here really, I just don’t pretend to know for certain.

This is getting all the media play because the media and some posters here learned nothing from 2016.

THIS is what matters and what should be plastered all over peoples feeds.

Donald Trump said he would hit cars made in Mexico by Chinese companies with a 100% tariff, double the levy he has previously said he would put on automobiles made south of the US border.

I fail to see how Trump’s increasingly violent and fascist rhetoric doesn’t matter. We can’t just ignore this stuff anymore because we know his supporters are willing to storm the capitol over him, and they’ve only become more zealous and angry since January 6. I guess some haven’t learned the lesson from that day either.

  6. Listen, with fascism in America imminent I may not be around for much longer. I have made peace with the idea that my days may be numbered. But before that happens I will use every opportunity I can to speak out about the dangers we are heading into. I will not go silently. I don't care if people disagree with me, history will validate me, even though I may not live to see that validation take place.

Basically. I’m not freaking out because he hasn’t covered my pet issues in the hour of total runtime so far. I know where he stands on the issues. Anyone who is a fan of his does. People who watch him weren’t on the fence in the first place.

I don't think Trump promising to be a dictator is a pet issue, it is a top issue that every America should be talking about.

Jon Stewart was never going to change any of that.

Also, why are you still in Florida? Didn’t a ton of people(myself included) donate a bunch of money to help you relocate?

Because I lost my career due to anti-LGBT legislation and now am dishwasher in a restaurant. I haven't been able to save money as fast as I hoped. But the plan was always to try to move by the end of the year. Hopefully that still works out.

I’ve been sick and I’m wiped out, so I don’t really have the fortitude to argue a bunch here today. Other people have said it better than I could right now.

No, not really, you are defending a user who is arguing that those with a platform do not have the duty to warn America about how dangerous the Republican party is. Look, as a trans person in Florida I'm used to everyone being against me and telling me I'm wrong. I'm used to not being taken seriously. None of this is new. But fascism will be coming at the end of this year and soon I will be validated. I won't feel good about being right here, but hopefully those who are arguing with me now will realize how wrong they were when my life is in danger.

I don’t think Paperclyp’s disagreement has to do with condemning trans people nor supporting facism/Trump.

And, for the record, Stewart’s episode of The Problem regarding Trans rights was absolutely phenomenal and his interview where he obliterated the Arkansas AG over their stance on gender affirming care was even better.

No, he is saying that those with a platform don't have a duty to warn America about how dangerous the Republican party has become. And who does the Republican party threaten the most? Trans people. So he is arguing that Stewart shouldn't have to warn America about a dangerous party that is threatening the lives of queer people.

And I did see that episode and thought it was good. That why I was disappointed by last week's episode, because I expected more from Stewart after seeing his trans episode.

    I don't agree with this.

So the Republican party is dehumanizing trans people and using the same rhetoric that Nazis used against queer people and you think people shouldn't be speaking out? Trump has an associate who is promising a second holocaust if Trump is elected and you think people shouldn't be speaking out? Project 2025's plan includes jailing librarians as sex offender for carrying books featuring queer characters and you don't think people should be speaking out?

It's fine if you believe that, but that's an indefensible position and it's not worth debating someone who clearly doesn't . If you wanna continue telling someone who is part of a group being targeted by a fascist party how to feel about this then go right ahead, but history will not on your side.

The funny thing is, all of this will be documented so if fascism comes and trans people die then everything is here. Everyone who liked one of @Paperclyp's posts will now be linked to supporting a user who told a trans person that Jon Stewart should not speak out against fascism. @best3444 @Ominous @CastlevaniaNut18 you are now on the record for supporting the posts of a user who is arguing that public figures should not be speaking out against fascism. Please recant this user's terrible position. If you are a true an ally now is not the time to be silent. Now is the time to stand up with trans people, not agree with those who try to argue that Jon Stewart shouldn't speak out against the dangers we face.

  12. I just don't think the media is doing a good about warning the public about how dangerous Trump and the MAGA movement have become. The average American is not aware that Trump is promising to be a literal dictator. It's negligence on the media's part to not be talking about this more, and yes, Jon Stewart is part of the media. Everyone with a platform has a duty to be speaking out.

You correctly referenced "liberals" as being those who Stewart could potentially "convince" to not vote for Biden when I commented that no true "leftist" would be watching his show in the first place.

Eh, I've kept up with the new segments just because I grew up watching Stewart and I was kinda curious about how he would handle discussing the election. Turns out... not well! But I did like the segment he did on Tucker Carlson. He's at his best with targeting right wing media I think.

“These two candidates, [Trump and Joe Biden] are both similarly challenged. And it is not crazy to think that the oldest people in the history of the country to ever run for president might have some of these challenges … We’re not suggesting neither man is vibrant, productive or even capable. But they’re both stretching the limits of being able to handle the toughest job in the world.”

This is the shit I'm annoyed with. Biden has issues with memory, but to suggest they are similarly challenged is just not factually true. The criticism against Biden is true but Trump has many perceived mental illnesses on top of potentially having dementia. Hell, he's even developing a messiah complex now by openly declaring himself to be created by God to be America's caretaker. But sure, similarly challenged.

Can you share more about what this means?

My therapist uses a form of treatment called brainspotting. It involves being put into a hypnotic state and then uses your eye movement to activate where the trauma is held in the nerves and release it. Each session I focus on a specific emotion and some deeply held emotional responses can take more than one session.

Nex Benedict, a teenager who identified as non-binary, has died following an alleged assault in a high school bathroom in Oklahoma, US.

This story has sent ripples of grief throughout the trans community for the past few days.

It's hard to add much more to this story because I keep bursting into tears. But Oklahoma had recently passed a bathroom law for trans kids in public schools and Nex had reported being bullied but the school did not act on it. After the assault the school refused to call the ambulance and suspended Nex for using the women's restroom. The next day Nex died.

The Libs of Tiktok lady is on the Oklahoma school board and it now looks like the school is trying to cover it up to avoid being held accountable. The police even released a false statement that the death was not caused by trauma that they quickly retracted. There's needs to be a federal investigation into this now.
